Not sure if this is the right place .. I am trying to convert one chapter/file on a DVD to any file (WMV maybe) so I can upload it to YouTube or something so I can share it with family and friends - I don't want to buy software just for one file.. is there a free software that I can download that I am able to select the one chapter? You can use DVD Shrink to grab one part of an (unprotected) DVD. Open the disk and click 'Reauthor'. Drag 'Title 1' from right to left and use 'Start/End Frames' tool to select your clip. 'Backup' to a folder. You can use the likes of 'VirtualDub-Mpeg2' to open the (VOB) file from the saved folder and save it as an AVI file by choosing the required compressors under the 'Video' and 'Audio' menu.
