Seems, since I am new, I jumped into a thread and posted a question on it that, in reality, should have been an answer to the already posted thread, if I had an answer. Sorry about that, but thank you for pointing out to me. It's how we learn things... This was my problem/question... I am stumped and I hope that someone can help. I have been using DVDDecrypter for sometime and all of a sudden it stopped being able to decrypt my movies. I went to DVDFab and that worked well. After decrypting I used Nero Recode to burn. Rarely would I have a disk that wouldn't play in my dvd player. Now, almost every movie I burn works in my computer but not my dvd player. I looked at some other, older, threads and saw one that said something about changing my IDE ATA/ATAPI to DMA. Well, this is where I get stumped. In my device manager, under the IDE I have 4 channels and 2 controllers. I am thinking this is because I have both a cd burner and a dvd burner. I have two primary ide channels and 2 secondary ones. The first primary has device 0 in which PIO only is the transfer mode and also the current transfer mode. Device 1 has DMA as transfer mode and "not applicable" under current transfer mode. The 2nd primary channel has DMA in both device 0 and device 1 but has "not available" in current. The 1st secondary channel has DMA in both device 0 and 1 but in the device 0 current transfer mode it says "Ultra DMA mode 2" and in device 1 it says "Ultra DAM mode 4". The 2nd secondary channel has, in both device 0 and 1, DMA. In current they both say Not applicable. I have tried to update all drivers and all state they have the most up to date drivers available. Also, I have use Memorex and Imation DVD + R's, always and this "NO DVD" in the player just started happening. If this makes sense to anyone, can you help? Please? Oh, one last thing. I am unable to change any of the Current transfer modes as they are greyed out. Thanks for listening. Any advice would be a help and no advice...well, it sure won't make me anymore confused than I already am. LOL
Hi lursprung Post your last Nero log and we can have a peek. Will give the drive configs so we can see what's going on there plus some other stuff. You can find the logs here: Nero 6 - program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory Nero 7 - program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory Just be sure to edit out your serial # - usually begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C. The discs you are using well not the best there and may be part of the problem. Realize they might have worked for you before but they use different manufacturers so you don't know who you may be getting.
Here's a guide for getting your dma's set: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/dvdguide005.html They must be in DMA/UDMA/or either of those 2 with If Available..Especially your harddrive and dvd-rw drive. Memorex and Imation: Very poor on the quality specrum. Memorex outsources their media. You may get some good ritek/ricohs in 1 batch and then get cmags in the next. The pickiest of players can give that no disc error to a certain MID code of media. Poor quality media can also throw your dma's into pio mode. When you get 5/6 burn errors in a row,windows will revert those controllers to Pio mode for safety purposes. It could also be a firmware issue. If you switched from 8x media to 16x,the firmware may need updated to help the write strategy. Use neroinfotool to find the MID codes of your older backups,and compare them with the MID codes of your blanks. See if there's a different code. Also post a nero log like binkie7 posted earlier.It'll show us all that info: Dma's/MID code/Firmware version/Drive/burn speed/target size/etc. I've had that happen on some Verbatim +4x 30 pk spindles. All 3 spindles identical,but 1 of those spindles were Ricohjpn-r01 while the other 2 were MCC-002. I found a ps2 that wouldn't recognize the Ricoh verbs,but no trouble with the MCC verbs.
Alright, I fixed the PIO trouble I was having. Now I'm burning faster. I still can't play the disk in the player though, only the computer. What's funny is that I can decrypt a movie and then recode it and it won't play in the dvd player but then I can take the same dvd, decrypt it again, recode it again and then it Will play in the dvd player. Also, I checked the MID of a blank disk and it sh owed CMC MAG M01 but when I tried to check it on a burned disk I couldn't find MID listed anywhere. Can you also tell me what the difference is between Dolby Digital 5.1-ch and 2-ch? Do I need to burn both when burning the movie or can I leave the 2-ch out? Anyway, any help will be wonderful as I do not want to continue burning two disks to get one movie. Here is the log of the Nanny McPhee that I burned that would not play in the dvd player. You only need the 5.1ch audio becuz if u dont have a surround sound system and only have 2 speakers it will play at 2ch. , hope that wasn't confusing 98% of the members at AD are going to say that these disks are probably ur biggest reason why they are not playing, u can try burning at a lower speed, however u would be better off to use top notch media like [bold]Verbatims[/bold], or [bold]any media made in Japan.[/bold] Edit-This might help with the current media u r using, still would get better media though There is also a firmware update for ur burner PS0B http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2175
The 2.0 channel audio more then likly is the audio track for (Menus/Extra's/Directors comentairy) So if you are doing Movie only then there should be no problem editing out the 2.0 Audio. If you keep everything or even menus then I would keep the 2.0 channel. Either way if you keep the 5.1 Channel audio then you will at least get audio for the movie. All the advice above is great advice. Hope you correct your problem.
Just to add to 300bowler's good advice: File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS Roxio and Nero don't always play well together. Uninstall Roxio and run the zap tool to completely remove it: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml I just leave the 5.1 audio too. Even if you don't have the dolby digital bit the audio will downmix to play on your player. Save somes on the compression just leaving 1. editted to add: You can update your Nero too - the latest is 7.5.7.0 - several fixes since the version you are using (though doubtful will help the playback problem)
Try reducing the backup target in recode 2. Open it up,click on backup disc. The screen pops up-look on right/center of screen: look for the box ticked Fit to target. Should be checkmarked. Just below,click and scroll till you get to custom. Enter 4300 mbs as your new target and OK. Get some better media,up that target to 4360 mbs. I'm not sure why it plays the 2nd time,but not the first. I have recode 2,but I mainly use dvd shrink and have nero6 do the autoburning. No opening nero in my setup. Way too fast,especially when using cmags. Drop it down to 8x or even 4x. Poor quality media has to be burned slower,along with a reduced target size. Your litey has booktyping capability,but you may have to use this special program-keep her bookmarked to your favorites: http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_utility.htm Also,download the free utility called dvdidentifier. Nero can booktype some drives,but not all. Place one of your backups in tray,open up dvdidentifer,select your litey drive,click identify. Then click the clipboard icon and paste it into your next post. It'll show if the backup is actually booktyped. Neroinfotool won't show that on my systems. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm
ok, first, thank you all for your help. I am so aggravted about the double burn thing. Would it help if I sent a log of the 2nd Nanny McPhee, which is the one I burned from the first one I burned, and plays great in my player, btw? Did that make sense? Question... I know how to slow down the read rate, but, after looking all through Nero I can not find out how to slow the burn rate. Can someone let me know where to find it? Also, Binkie7.. you say to uninstall Roxio but my Roxio, to my knowledge is only for my photosuite software. Which I use to import pictures and do editing, etc. Maybe I'll just have to do the 1st burn on a rewritable and then burn to another dvd, this way I could at least use the same rw over a few times... couldn't I? Thanks for all the help!!! and if anyone can think of anything else... I'm all ears.
If you're using Shrink w/ Nero autoburning when you click 'backup' click on the burn settings tab to reduce the burn speed. If not in Nero Burning Rom click on the burn tab to reduce it. The other apps in Nero have the burn speed setting on the last screen. Roxio's drag & drop (think it's called) packet writing software driver (the 1 from your log) can sometimes conflict w/ other programs. It might be listed separately in add/remove programs to unisntall. I would reduce the speed, update the firmware and see how that goes 1st. Switch the media to the better stuff too. A friend burned some DVD's on 16x Imation - they are hit or miss in any of my players or even any of my drives recognizing them. They usually show as blank though they're not. Now if they burn them again say on a Verb or Taiyo Yuden no problem with anything recognizing. Media can make all the difference. Keep the PC clean too. If you haven't very recently do a antivirus & spyware scan, disc clean up,run a registry cleaner and do a defrag. Try our suggestions and let us know how it goes.
Yep,after 4-5 quick erases,then do a full erase. You said you had to make a second copy to get them to play: When you do the 2nd backup,are you re-ripping that first copy or are you ripping the original Nanny Mcphee disc again? I interpret this as you're re-ripping the 1st copy to get the 2nd copy. Let me know otherwise. I know roxio and nero6 clash. Not sure of nero7. Both nero6 and roxio have extra packets. Nero has incd and roxio has drag to disc. I didn't see any info about Incd in your burn log.
"I interpret this as you're re-ripping the 1st copy to get the 2nd copy. Let me know otherwise." Yes saugmon, you would be correct. Any idea why it would be working this way?
This is the first time I have heard about an issue like this. Very strange. I've only used recode a couple times and no trouble. You rip with dvd decrypter and then burn with recode 2? No I go about it another way. I enable anydvd in the background-it's a background ripper because nero won't pull off encryption. Then I rip and burn with recode2. I'm also not very knowledgable with Nero7. Myself, I rip with dvd shrink and autoburn with nero6. No extra step involved to burn-dvd shrink enables nero to burn after the encoding to harddrive. Sometimes I have to enable anydvd to help shrink rip the newer sony and columbia releases. Again,no extra step involved for that either. I'll send for creaky. He's very knowledgable on those nero logs. Maybe a software issue? Nero6 was a little flaky. Usually an uninstall and run nero cleantool6 always fixed my issues. Edit: Can you burn a disc at 4x or 8x and see if your players will recognize it? Your burn log showed 16x which is way too fast for the low quality media you are using. That was the second rip. Also post a log of one of those 1st rips. I wanna see if that burn speed is 16x or lower.
BOO!.. saugmon found me hiding, crouched down away from those Imation/CMC discs anyway, my eyes aren't quite up to speed yet but i've had a quick scan thru. - that's not good, most of your free memory is being used; you need to keep as much free memory available prior to burning, as you can. The good guys and girls seem to have dissected the logfile thus far, more coffee needed then i'll re-read the whole thread thru again. what i can't do is vouch for any 7.x Nero versions, i'm still on 6.6.0.18, plus i don't use Recode, but i know the others posting here use both. (I always use DVD Shrink in the first instance. if it barfs due to a new encryption i use DVDFab Decrypter (free). Either way i then use Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.18 to do a 'dvd-video' burn to dvd; i've just never found a need for other programs; oh sometimers i use DVD Decrypter also). Anyways, as i say, i'll have a look thru the thread again;
"There is also a firmware update for ur burner PS0B http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2175" Well, I downloaded the update and installed it. Came across a new problem in that now my DVD+-RW drive now says it is a CD drive when I put a +rw dvd in it. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled and even rebooted my computer to factory status... ( I was having a couple of issues before this) and now.. still a CD drive or a DVD-RW drive. This really blows. I guess my next step is to contact the blasted manufacturer. So, I won't be doing any burns anytime soon but thanks for all the help and, when I do get this problem fixed, I'll be back in to read all the advice again and start all over. Thanks to all!
Hi lursprung The drive changing to show CD drive when you put a disc in is normal - nothing to be worried about. Why windows does that - don't know. But all is good there.
BUt it is a problem because it won't acknowledge a dvd +rw when I put it in the drive. I tried to burn a movie and it kept telling me to put a disk in the drive, but it was already in there. I'm stuck!
Yep now that would be a problem not recognizing the disc. If you have another pc may want to try it in that one to try & narrow it down to drive and connection (ide cable). LiteOn may ask you to do the same thing as a test.
