Well, I just installed windows media center a few days ago. So last night i started to notice lag. When ever i open task manager there was a tremendose amount of lag. Also when ever i try opening ms config, i have to wait a few minutes before the screen even shows.
So any idea why this is happening? Thanks In Advance.

im no pc expert....but sounds to me you might have spyware running in the background, i had a simalar problem where everything took ages to load, all i did to solve it was to do a spyware scan, i used "spyware doctor" to get rid and i also cleaned up the windows registry (where most of the viruses and spyware hide)

i dont recomend going into your registry yourself if you dont know what your doing..its basically the heart of windows xp

use this "cleanmypc registry cleaner" it will automatically get rid of the shit safley

    hope that helps

oh and those programs i recomended, you have to "buy" (slight snigger) them

if for some strange coincidence you already own them, you can always download them using a torrent site to back your copies up ;);)

    good luck

I ran several spyware scans using Ad-Aware SE Professional. Also Windows Defender. Still the same stuff

Might just be that Windows Media Demands more memory. Try upgrading your RAM or try decreasing the amount of applications you have running simulatenously.

I'll assume you installed and got all updates then installed other software as we do and updated them,my guess would be a registry clean is in order (toni arts easycleaner - it's a safe cleaner to use as it will backup anything it deletes in case a restore is necessary) then do a defrag

It would help to disable pagefile and hybernation and restart before defragging then re-enable when finished

If you decide to add more ram make sure your hdd speed is 7200rpm or faster coz if it's like my old hdd 5400rpm before i replaced it, it'll make stuff all diff adding ram also make sure ram sticks are paired *good luck*

I am getting more ram. A 1 gig stick, to bad i have to get a special one (those co*k suckers dell made a special type of ram that only can be used with my dell system). Well anyways, defragging must have sliped my mind. Ill try that when i get the chance.
