Hi I need some help with finding a laptop for university that I can also use at home. It will eventually be my primary PC as I normally use a desktop PC but I will be parting with it due to it getting old and not being portable. I have seen a Lenovo Thinkpad SL500 for a resonable price at this site Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 Can anyone please give me advice on this product or whether there is another product that is better for me or more portable, with a disc drive thing so I can upload all my old pictures and songs from my desktop. Thanks very much.
Well it really depends what you plan on doing with the computer, and whether you are looking to do any 3D rendering or gaming with it. Lenovo's generally are a good choice and seen as quality machines. As far as transferring files from your old to new machine it will be far faster and easier to transfer them either over your network or over a external USB device than burning them on disc and transferring them disc by disc.
Personaly, the Lenovo line seems a bit overpriced and underbuilt to me. If you want to use the laptop in a few classes in a row, your best but might be to get yourself a netbook. It may not be enough to use as a main machine, but the battery lasts a very long time & it should do everything you need in class...and the cost is low. As for transfering stuff to a netbook, just get a flashdrive or use the wlan.
