This is a little out there, but I'm hoping somebody can help. My Uncle bought a laptop from Home Shopping Net. and is having a problem with the screen going black while he is on it. It doesn't shut anything down, but he can't see anything, so he has to restart. Also, he doesn't know the exact brand/id of his laptop and I can't physically see it, and the few things that I have tried don't give him any information! Any idea on how to figure out what the brand is or how to fix the problem with his screen?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Try this and see if it helps. Click on Control panel, then display, then click on the screen saver tab. Check to see if the screen saver is set to blank and the time it is set to start eg 1 or 2 mins. Choose the none option for the screen saver and see if this helps. You can always go back and alter it. If that's not the problem them click on the power button in the lower right corner of same screen saver menu. Check to see what time the monitor is set to turn off or if the hibernate feature is turned on. Choose never or increase the times to say 30 mins or more and see if this works. Post back your result.
