I have a problem here and this is the first time ever. I have just downloaded a High Quality DivX file. It is 2.2 GB avi. Now, the video starts off fine, but after a couple of minutes, the audio gets out of sync with the video. However, if there is a sync problem, all I have to do is move the slider a little bit and it goes back to normal. After a couple of seconds/minutes, it goes out of sync again. I have worked with out of sync files before, and I have fixed them. This is the first time though that it fixes by moving the slider, and then gets out of sync again. Therefore I rule out the possibility of a delay, since even when I go back to the previous scene that was once out of sync, it is now in sync. I think that the problem is is that this is such a large file. Can someone please help me please?

you can download this prog which tells u and also lets you modify the file, still keeping the original. http://www.moitah.net/download/latest/MPEG4Modifier.zip It allows you to unpack the bitrate of the divx/xvid, which allows the chipset on the player to better perform, therfore eliminating the jerkiness, and blocking. When you open the file, under packed bitstream, check the unpack box. Then in the user data box, edit the line that is something like DivX999b000p , and change the p to an n. or if its xvid just check the unpacked box. worth a go, and remember to save the file and keep your original. PS. go to http://www.divx.com/ and download the free player and codec first, and try it on their player. If still the same then unpack the bitrate (if it is packed). But def play the file with divx player first.
Hello, It says that "OpenDML AVIs currently not supported" when I try to open it with MPEG4Modifer. Also, is there a DivX player without the bundle? Thanks for the help.
yes you can download divx player and codec for free on the link i gave you (www.divx.com). click downloads and free player and codec is available. If you have quicktime that will play OpenDML.
Quick Time for some reason wont play it. Just opens a new window and wont play. As for the Divx player, I havent seen anything yet but like I mentioned it happens out of nowhere. So if it happens while watching on the player, I will let you know. BTW, would this be a video issue or the computer? I am thinking of burning it on DVD but I am not sure if this problem will also happen on the DVD-RW. Any ideas?
Burning it to disc without re-encoding would just retain the properties of the original file and would almost certainly have the same outcome when played on the same software on your PC (it seems its an encoding issue with the file and software your using). I've got a number of large avi files and Divx (latest) is the only one that plays these files consistently well, they even go out of sync at times using Nero Showtime. They all play fine on my Divx standalone. You could always encode the file to another format, but for me the best results are with Divx.
Thanks a lot for all the help. I was going to reencode into MPEG4, but I am frightful that it still might go wack out of sync. Do you happen to know what the problem is exactly? Obviously it is not a delay, since it happens spontaneously and can be fixed by rewinding and fastforwarding. Thanks again.
There's no difinitive standard of encoding when it comes to avi/divx, many variants and certain players have problems with different en-code's. Nero Digital has always worked well for me, when encoding for my standalone's/psp/ipod video.
