I'm wondering if people with mod chips or softmods installed, who primarily play off burnt media (not off the HD), have had laser trouble or burnouts on their xbox. I ask because I know plenty of people who have been playing for years on modded PS2s without much trouble and I had thought by and large the xbox laser(s), please correct me if I'm wrong, were a little better then most PS2 laser(s).
The lasers in the Thomson and Phillip tend to burn out, but that's not really anything to do with backup media! The Samsung never dies!

That doesn't necessarily mean that you should play off burnt media all the time, even though the laser will never burn out but playing off the hard drive extends the life of your laser. Thompson and Phillips users should upgrade their hard drive ASAP, use the dvd drive only to create backups and consider purchasing as Samsung as well. Since you already have one, how lucky you are!
