Last min check on comp before buying

    Anyone want to confirm that this build will suffice for overclocking to 3.0 ghz on stock cooling, with casual gaming, and all will fit into case and all parts will work

    contents:

    -Intel Q6600
    -Asus P5Q Pro
    -Thermaltake WingRs 100
    -Corsair VX550W
    -Diamond Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out Video Card
    -Cheapest 4GB PC2-6400 ram
    -Cheapest dvd writer OEM


    Will i need to add a 120mm fan to this or will this all work out?

    for a better overclocking experience, I'd suggest going with the P5Q Deluxe over the P5Q Pro and using Corsair memory, not just any old cheap brand.

    I'd also agree with krj about the cooler, you will need a powerful aftermarket one to overclock a quad core CPU - the one he suggests is very good, to go even further though I'd recommend a Thermalright Ultra-120 cooler with a Scythe 120mm fan fitted.

    The case you have chosen is quite poor for cooling, this would be partly aided by fitting a front 120mm fan, but far better would be to buy a better case, like the NZXT Tempest. Overclocked quad cores and HD4850 graphics cards both put out serious heat, you need a proper case for them.

    Seriously, why is everyone getting expensive boards? You are barely overclocking so no need for P45, and casual gaming so no need for X38/X48.

    Get a GA-EP35-DS3R(100 at the egg), and then spend that saved money on a better case, DON'T get the cheapest RAM(go with QUALITY!), and maybe get a decent burner so you wont have to waste money on coasters.

    And guys, he will be fine on the stock cooler at 3Ghz. You can use a fairly low voltage for 3Ghz. The temps start getting way higher around the 3.2ghz mark.

    Heh, Abuzar, you know the mentality of overclockers. Who's to say you should stop at 3Ghz, if you're overclocking to some extent, you'll inevitably want more, so why not have the option?
    In all fairness the P35-DS3R board will do fine for overclocking that CPU, no questions asked.

    Yeah, and the money saved will help him get decent other parts. That GA-EP35-DS3R wi go far and save a lot of money in the process.
