So I want to learn french.. Well I've always wanted to but I'm going to start now! I want to utilize my iPod in the process so I've began looking around the net for good audiobooks and podcasts that would help me begin.. I havn't really found anything yet that is what I'm looking for. Most of the stuff I'm finding is far too advanced. Can someone give me a hand by pointing me in the direction of some material that would help me?

Stay away from French! LOL. I have to take French in school. I hate it so much but luckily this is the last year that I have to take it. IN my opinion it's terrible. It's teh class that I get the worst grade of my report card in. Je deteste le Francais.

@RoNin ... some of my family members teach french; I'll ask to see if they know of any good software or online courses. As I boy, I spoke French and my English was atrocious; when I went to an English speaking high school, I was kept back despite good grades to learn to speak English properly...it's illegal to do that now and it's too bad because it did me a lot of good. Once you beging learning French, there are two things you MUST do if you really want to learn 1. READ ALOUD (not in your head as you would with english) 2. WRITE, WRITE, WRITE. Start keeping like a personal journal even if it will be extremely limited at first. French is very grammar heavy and, unlike English, you can't ignore or misuse the grammar; reading aloud and writing are the best ways to learn. There are two letters of the alphabet which english speaking people have a hard time with; some find it impossible....the letters "R" and "U". In french, you have to "roll" the letter R. If you can't roll it in the throat like french people do (most engligh speaking people can't) then roll the letter "R" in the front of you mouth like the Scottish people do (and the Irish too, I think). If you don't roll the letter "R", no one will be able to understand you; it's a critical letter. So too with the letter "U"; if you mispronounce it, the word can mean something else entirely and the french pronounciation for the letter "U" is difficult because there is no equivalent sound in english so do this: pucker your lips nice and tight then try to say an english "long E" which will produce how the letter "U" is pronounced in french....an old choir director's trick when singing in french. I'll try to get some info for you regarding learning material.
