I cant belive there's no responses to this on yet! Now, I don't smoke, used to but not anymore. However, I see this as a great thing, people have demonstrated for well over 20 years that if the want to smoke a joint, THEY ARE GOING TO SMOKE A JOINT.

Now, I see where the mayor is coming from on the "gateway drug" thing but consider this. If a person wants to smoke a bowl now and then, we call this recreational use. If another person wants to stay high all the time, we call this addicted. In my opinion (and experiance) addiction is often downplayed in favor of calling pot a "gateway drug". Think about it, does anyone really belive that the "recreational" user is going to start smoking more just because he can? Maybe a little, but not nearly the amount of a person who is "addicted".

My point here is that I don't belive the tearm "gateway drug" is relevant. I thing that the people who start out smoking pot and move on to coke, heroin, meth, or whatever are going to do that wether pot is legal or not. The "recreational" user is NOT going to do the same weather pot is legal or not. Am I making sense here?

So, in summary, I personally am all for the legalization of marijuana. Why cause so many people so much legal trouble over something that trully does no more harm than alcohol or tobbaco (which are legal, and there are published studies that show in a lot of cases these are WORSE for you than pot). It makes no sense in my mind.

Come on guys, lets hear some other thoughts and points-of-view about this.

i dont like the term "gateway drug" either.i prefer the term "beginner drug" or maybe "remedial drug".you're not a real man unless you're snorting down a half of pound of cocaine."always stive to be the best" is my motto.but be careful, that stuff can clog the nasal passages.

by the way, legalizing drugs is gonna destroy the economy.just think of all those poor drug dealers that will be out of work.:(

the whole 'gateway' thing is garbage. if it was legalized, it wouldn't turn everyone into crackheads and junkies. the stigma that it's such a bad drug is the problem. everyone hears bad things about it, and then they try it and realize it's no so bad. they figure the same must be true for cocaine, heroin, etc. i think it's a case of the boy who cried wolf....
