That thread is the ultimate post padding thread, ive seen many members post [bold] AT LEAST 40 times in there already[/bold]. Honestly, I might as well go in there and post 700 times so I make Addict in a week...

EDIT: Read my final post below.

This thread you just started could be considered post padding...

I don't know why, but I rather enjoy it. Hey, I do my bit...I go and help out, answer questions try to help someone in need of assistance; in fact, what attracted me to this site in the first place was people's willingness to help because I was seriously confused about a couple of things. I've learned a lot and have been able to help more and more and I do help. Having said that, if one is out helping, what's wrong with a little silliness?

I keep hearing all this about padding post counts; I'm not altogether sure why that is a matter of such importance if it isn't padding my take home pay at the same time but I guess we all have our priorities even if their value is critical to some and of nebulous importance to others. Seems to me, I see most of the people out helping others, so where is the problem? I'd wager that if the saftey valve and other subjects areas weren't applied to post counts, people would be there anyway. My two cents, I guess.

I did. Sorry but this a peeve of mine, and its been really annoying me. JXP, this is the last time i will be posting in the safety valve, and probably the last time posting in Afterdawn at all for a while. I now know why all these other respected members decided to leave. Goodbye for now, and to all those members that still have my respect and admiration, keep up the excellent work.

The majority of the posters in "Safety Valve" are there to "pad" there post counts. None of this stuff helps anyone with backing up their DVDs....Just my NSHO.....

    Bilbo and Tocool,

Thank you for echoing my sentiments. Its good to know that Im not the only one that thinks it is a ridiculous way to get a rank you dont deserve.

This however, will be my last post at aD for a while until things get better, or at least what i feel is better, as I am no longer having fun here as I used to.

Once again, thanks for the memories and to all the members who have earned my respect and admiration, keep up the excellent work.

Edit: Ireland, o boy, you are a whole different story, just keep those pics coming buddy, LOL :)

If people want it closed, then by all means close it. If people are doing their bit elsewhere and helping out where help is needed, why all the fuss? If I've done my best to help others in those forums where I have some knowledge, does that mean I should just sign off and go to bed because I've exhausted my usefulness for the day? ...I've contributed where I could so go away because you've outlived your usefulness for the day? Just seems pretty narrowminded to me. Yes, everybody should do their part, I couldn't agree with that more fervently; I think its everyone's duty to contribute to the benefit of other members...newbies and long-term alike, in so doing we "teach and learn" as ddp is so aptly correct in saying. It was that very generosity and willing to help without the techno-snobbery so frequently found elsewhere that attracted me here in the first place. Gear79 helped me a lot, I learned a lot, I shared what I learned in helping others, and damned near all of you know gear, he spent huge amounts of time just coming into the safety valve and being unbelievably silly when he finished assisting in the forums and there were few more respected than he. It's part of the attraction that one socializes and doesn't take life so damned seriously. Indeed, why would "addicts" continue to post to the safety valve with such vigor if rank were their only motivation?

If the number of posts are to hold, for whatever inexplicable reason, the value of gold ingots, perhaps the administrators should stop the count in these particular forums...I'm sure they'd go on anyway because people like to unwind and get downright silly as is just human nature and those who fear "post padding" with such dread would be satisfied. In another forum, someone spoke of putting a system in place where only technical contributions are included in the post counts...go for it; safety valve will hardly die down because I rather doubt that most people just post for the sake of increasing their numbers...to what end, what's the prize?...the word "addict"? I, for one, feel sorry for the person who considers that an ambition! Just stop counting the posts in the safety valve rather than critizing someone's all too human need for plain and simple foolishness.

    DVD,

Why are you going to leave? You post some very helpful info in the other forums. I too post where I can help out.

Why would you leave because of the saftey valve? No one is going to get to Addict by playing that game...

Its just not going to happen. That takes a lot of posts. The saftey valve is a way to just have fun. I feel some have lost sight of that.

Look, we just don't want to lose another good member. They are becoming few and far between... And you , my friend, whether you like it or not, are a valued member. So if we have lost your respect by playing a game, so be it. But you haven't lost ours.

Come on back. We'll be here...

Goodness, some of our best members seem to be leaving.. *sigh*

Leaving because of what [bold]other people[/bold] are doing is even more depressing, and lowers the morale of the forum yet another notch..

I did a search on a few members, just to see where they were posting. Few help others, a few just post in the safety valve! Way to get rankings. Along with all the pointless threads, these endless discussions that just seem to round & round. We have threads where people express a valid opinion on religion or politics & are flamed for it. So much for free speech or respecting other peoples' opinions.

    It's a shame really.

A great shame indeed. But I think it's the duty of those who have been here for a while to set a benchmark for the rest. Rise above it guys. We are here to help, that is the primary reason, correct?

Everyone needs to just calm down, let the mods do their jobs, report where necessary, and not look too much into other people's activities..

I am just a curious person. I rarely comment in these futile discussions. Only if I feel someone is being flamed for no reason.

Is there a prize for how many posts you make? Is there a punishment for making to few posts? And if the answer is no to both the above posts i dont know people are bothered about this.

I say if you want to make 700 one word posts, then carry on knock yourself out your only wasting you own time. I am not the only person that dont care what word/words appear below my name. Change mine to "smuck" then again i dont care.

Yes the only reasons there are Afterdawn Addicts, is because they are dedicated to the forums and help people out, not to play some stupid game to boost there post count, I think that Afterdawn Addict status should be a vote kind of rank if this stupid game is to still go on......So what i am trying to say when you see an Afterdawn Addict you know they will help you but if we keep playing this stupid game and everybody reaches Addict status you won't know that they are dedicated to the forums to help you.........
That's what i have to say...And to all current Addicts thanks for your help on these forums.....

"Status" "rank" "status" "rank". Where does this come from? "Status?" ...what status is that? What "rank" is that? I don't think I've ever heard those two words used to describe something so terribly insignificant!

I too think that this thread should be closed now too...now that people have taken what fun there is totally out of it for fear of lowering some really nebulous if not totally bizarre notions of "status" and "rank". Some people really need to set their sights for "status" and "rank" a little higher than they have rather than make accusations of those to whom those two words actually mean something close to their original definitions.

And I also wish they'd stop the post count in the safety valve so that inane accusations can stop and those of us who like to play after we contribute can do so in peace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND I DO CONTRIBUTE UNLIKE SOME OTHERS. Might as well close it ... and the whole damned safety valve as well since our complainers don't seem to agree with the very description of the forum in the first place!!!!!!! Guess I'll go get my ill gained, all important, earth shattering, nothing else matters, make me the high and mighty addict short sightedly defined ambition of the chronic complainers in, oh, what do you think....the important thread of breadfast coffee where posts are so much more legit? Or is my post more valid in the three word responses of "What are you listen to?" Bunch of adolescent whiners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
