My dilemna with my LG DVD burner is that I can copy and burn CD's just fine however when I place a blank DVD in to burn it can't even see the drive.

I can watch DVD movies as well as SVCD movies on it fine...but I can't copy, burn or even read a blank DVD on this player.

    Any suggestions??
    Thanks
    Tony

    OS is XP sp2
    1.5G Ram
    AMD Opteron
    DVD is set secondary master

Here are a few things I heard about in regards to your drive. In one case the drive wouldn't work if another drive was set to slave with it on the same IDE cable. It would work great if the slave drive was removed. In several other cases it was stated that the only way this drive would work right was with the IDE controllers set to PIO mode. If DMA was enabled they would hang up. This of course is completely backwards from what every other drive requires and will make burning much slower. Maybe look for a firmware update. It sure can't hurt. Sorry I can't give you better news about this LG drive. Check here for firmware updates.

Thanks, unfortunately I did a firmware update with a techie on the line from LG and it didnt work. He then sent it to another techie but it went to his voice mail. I can sit at home waiting for someone to get back to me! Plus they said they would contact me via email but I haven't heard a thing yet. This drive is driving me crazy :(

Go to this site and read some of the posts about your drive. They may help.

Once there, click dvd writers on the left side, then enter your model in the search block.

mine was in a case and usb 2 was not working on the burn. worked out that usb 2 did not recognise burn
