    Hello!

I hope I'm in the right forum :)

I have used Pioneer DVD Burners for the last few years, but I got SO tired of them quitting on me (not reading / writing) after only about a year and a half. So, now I have this drive which I REALLY like. It burns lightning fast and I'm really happy with it, EXCEPT...

For some bizarre reason the bloody thing is slower than a dead monkey at reading DVDs! I mean even my old, OLD Sony drive which I use to read discs occasionally is like 3 times faster! It takes around 15 minutes to rip a single layer DVD when with the pioneers it would usually take around maybe 5 or 6 minutes.

I have the auto-update thingy and SUPPOSEDLY I am up to date with the firmware (ironically this last update was specifically to 'improve' readability! :) )

    Any suggestions...???

    Thanks kindly!

    Jaime.

check your dma, sounds like you may be in pio mode.
there are several post that detail how to do it.
just enter dma in the search section.

Thanks kindly for your reply; I'm sorry, I really should have mentioned that the IDE channel is indeed set to ULTRA-DMA, so that's not it :(

    Appreciate the effort though! :)

    Thanks!

    Jaime.
