hi evreone, i have a problem with my dvd writer, i just installed it and evreything was fine until i tried to put a disk on it. evreytime i unsert a disk in the writer, my system restart itself. anyone could help solve the problem?
Internal or external? Internal: Double check all the wires and jumpers. How do you have it configured? Primary slave/cable select or Secondary master/slave/cable select? Did that burner come with it's own flat IDE ribbon? What's the brand name and model#?
it's GSA-4167b LG internal. it's configured as secondary slave and it didn't come with it's owne IDE cable. is it posible that my motherboard or the IDE cable cousing this problem? i also have another drive on this IDE and it works fine. the dvd writer also works fine on other computers i tried.
You may try putting the lg drive as secondary master and the other drive-that works-as secondary slave. You may even try setting the LG burner as master and the other drive as slave or c/s. Some pcs call for c/s instead of slave. Look at the IDE ribbons and see if you can tell if they are 40 wire or 80 wire. You need 80 wire/40 pin ide ribbon. These will have thinner wires, but more, than the older 40 wire ribbon. You may even want to pick up an extra 40 pin/80 wire ribbon just to rule out the possibility of a bad ribbon. They should only be a couple bucks. How do you have all your other drives configured and what are they? What's your pc specs? Ram/processor-speed/hard drive/s/hard drive space available/OS/and anything else you want to add in. When you hook it back up,go into device manager under dvd/cd-rw drives and see if your drive is recognized. It should list the model#.Also while you are there, check your IDE-ATA/Atapi controllers-both primary and secondary. You may have 2 primary and 2 secondary controllers.Open each controller up with a double click/advanced setting tab/and look at the current transfer mode. Your primary should be something like UDMA5 and UDMA2. Secondary may say UDMA if available. If they say DMA,then you're ok. Make sure they don't say PIO mode. What kind of disc was it? Blank dvd/cd/or original dvd/cd? At least it works on other pcs so we know you got a good drive. Probably something simple.
