Hi there I recently acquired a LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B drive. It is fitted with the latest firmware driver (5.1.2535.0 - dated 7/1/2001). I have been informed by the local LG Support Service that it will only write on slow speed DVD-RW format discs. However (despite using multispeed DVD- format discs), it will still not recognize them (with both Nero 6.3.1.20 and CDBurnerXP Pro 3). Please refer to a copy of the error message below. [It does somewhat curiously write CD- format discs (with CDBurnerXP Pro 3) - so there is some degree of writing functionality present]: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.01 (978), size=22528 bytes, created 4/10/2007 9:37:40 AM ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.68, size=160016 bytes, created 7/22/2004 5:33:44 PM Nero version: 6.3.1.20 (Nero Express) Recorder: <HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B>Version: A108 - HA 1 TA 1 - 6.3.1.20 Adapter driver: <IdeChnDr> HA 1 Drive buffer : 1312kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <LG CD-ROM CRD-8522B>Version: 1.02 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.3.1.20 Adapter driver: <IdeChnDr> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD400JB-00ENA0 IdeChnDr Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : QUANTUM FIREBALLlct08 26 IdeChnDr Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : LG CD-ROM CRD-8522B IdeChnDr Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B IdeChnDr Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === LG CD-ROM CRD-8522B E: CDRom0 HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020 F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1015MB (1039856kB) Free physical memory: 649MB (664928kB) Memory in use : 36 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 9.1.2008 ISO compilation 7:28:58 PM #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6065 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : TRUE Multisession type: : Start multisession Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 7:28:58 PM #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 126 Reader running 7:28:58 PM #3 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 7:28:59 PM #4 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3173 Turn on Disc-at-once, using DVD media 7:29:00 PM #5 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 247 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 34111 ( 7:34.61, 66MB) 7:29:00 PM #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 259 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 7:29:00 PM #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2162 Recorder: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B, Media type: DVD-RW Disc Manufacturer: OPTODI - SCW004 Disc Application Code: 2, Disc Physical Code: 214 7:29:00 PM #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 420 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 7:29:00 PM #9 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 813 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 (CTransferItem) 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 34112 (34112) = #34112/7:34.62 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 34112 blocks [HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B] -------------------------------------------------------------- 7:29:00 PM #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 984 Prepare recorder [HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; Hi Rotary: Thank you so much for your extremely detailed reply. I will do this and see what happens. With kindest regards
Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : TRUE Multisession type: : Start multisession is this the correct status? or a mistake?
I have just started the process. I have located the two Roxio drivers and deleted them. Have you possibly got a link to the Roxio Zap tool - although I can easily Google this phrase?
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml when you say located you mean just those files above? or did you do a proper un-instalation?
I have located the following system files: CDR4_2K.SYS and Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS I have sent them to my Recycle Bin. Should I rather restore them and try to open them and see whether I can uninstall them? Do I need a specific programme to open them? I found the Roxy Zap tool and have used it and rebooted my system. [Sorry for the possible mistake (and stupid questions) but I am not hugely tech savvy]. With kindest regards
yes its always best to uninstall from control panel add/remove programs tab !!! then use roxio zap tool ======================================== Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : TRUE Multisession type: : Start multisession is this the correct status? or a mistake?
yes its in your log above... in rference to this part Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : TRUE Multisession type: : Start multisession is this the correct status? or a mistake? as this part leaves disc open! and deadly to be read on a dvd player.
Btw: I have "refound" the first system file (again with Search Results) but (when clicking on it) get the message that Windows cannot open it. What should I do to try to uninstall it properly?
thats because it needs to be uninstalled properly from the control panel and add/remove programs tab, things like Roxio Easy Cd Creator software etc etc... then use roxio zap. if you done the above and this file is still there could need a reboot on pc, and then if still there due to curuption via deleting rather than uninstalling, then get a free app called UNLOCKER install this app right click on the file then delete it!
I have downloaded and installed UNLOCKER to (hopefully) permanently delete the two relevant system files. I then re-used the Roxio Zapper Tool and rebooted the system. I then uninstalled the IDE controller (Intel ....) and rebooted the system which need needed to be rebooted again for the new hardware to work properly. However, by examining the F-drive (where the DVD Burner is located) the disc is still not being recognized by the system (as its capacity is still recorded as 0 Kbytes). Therefore might there possibly have been an error in the "programmic" installation of the DVD Burner (which was rather quickly performed by a relative of mine)? Can you please explain the pathway from System - Hardware that I must follow to check whether DMA is enabled and how this can be rectified (as this perhaps seems to represent the major underlying problem)? [Sorry for my ignorance in these matters]
location of my pc, yours should be simarlar... after you checked dma we will look into the quick install by a buddy of yours... what disc are you useing in the drive thats not recognised? one of those dvdrs? or original?
Enabling DMA: http://www.onthegosoft.com/dma_setting_nt.htm Also it would be a good ideea to update Nero to the latest 6 version.
How can I add a screenshot of my equivalent to your one - as the "Add image" button does not seem to work in the customary fashion (i.e. provide me a link to "My Pictures")? The configuration is as follows: IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Intel(R) 82801DB Ultra ATA Controller Primary IDE Channel Secondary IDE Channel [These three entries are all at the same level and not a subset of the Intel Controller. Is this okay?].
Thank you so much for the latest link and the advice to update my copy of Nero. I will try these ....
open these up click on them Primary IDE Channel Secondary IDE Channel look for dma or pio upload pictures to www.imageshack.us
