Linux will my external harddive work

    Hello there need a bit of help
    i am planing on installing linux 10 soon,(using xp pro now) but there is one thing stoping me, its my external hard dive where i store my backed up dvd,music and videos

    file types include

    mpeg
    avi
    mp3
    winrar
    and dvd iso

    Now will those files work with linux of do i have to rid of them all and start again (plz say i dont)

    The files will work, but you'll have to find a way to get linux to recognise them on that NTFS drive, and get them off it.

    ok then thanx but dose eny know or could give me a ruff idea how i would do it.

    p.s i dual booted linux and xp so i can u use both to sove this problem

    You can compile your own kernel with NTFS read support. You dont get full acces to the drive, but enough to back up your data on an ext3 drive (or whatever your preference is).
