picked up the liteon lvw-5115ghc+ today at costco. It was $129 with $40 off, couldn't pass it up. Don't know anything about it. Want to know if there are any hacks. I have until 12/10 to return my ilo dvdr04 to Wally World. Pretty much want to know if this is a good trade or should I keep the ILO. Any feedback would be great.

As far as I can tell, the 5115 is a Costco only machine much like the ilo is a Sam Walton special .. as far as I'm concerned, the LiteOn is a better machine since the 05 isn't really a very good machine ...

I'm sure that hacks will be forthcomming for the LiteOn .. keep an eye out at one of these forums:

I've been searching the forums for news of a hack to bypass macrovision on this unit. Has anyone had any success? If so, can you steer me in the right direction?

    Thanks

    Liteon 5115 GHC+
I was able to download the firmware from the
    http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/download_dvd.htm
I installed the firmware unhacked and it improved teh quality of both Divx and TV output.
I tried the ILO hack but it did not removed macrovision (though it said it did) I don't want to record old tapes or VHSs I want to be able to record from cable or Satellite so I can watch later and skip the commercials. (I thibk this is a thing the unit is suppose to do. But when ever I try to record (so far from Comcast cable and Satellite) it records fine from a while and then at random it shows like a grid pattern which comes and goes (it looks like putting a fishing net in front of the image for a few seconds) this may happen once or it may happen for a few minutes, at any time during the recording. I haven't tried to record from a VHS and I have tried all inputs in the unit (back rca connectors, front RCA connectors and RF Input with the same results. The only thing that works for me is passing the video through my sony camcorder and unputing the signal though the DV in the Liteon 5115 GHC+. But then the image is full of horizaontal lines during movement ( I guess the camcorder interlaces the video) and the recording sucks.

Anyhow, I have heard that when people try to record from "Macrovisioned" source (like a VHS) they received some kind of an error. I am not getting that while recording from the cable/Satellite.
I am assuming that this is macrovision related because the DV connection does not do the grid pattern. Or it might be som othe copy protection way of the Cable/Satellite. The unit not defective (unless I had to deffective units, doing the same thing)

I also tried opening the firmware with a hex editor and I found the supposed values for macrovision only once in it (the 53 56 00 00.. or what ever the right numbers are) I changed it and tried it on the machine but ipon flashing it kept doing the same thing.

Can someone tell me if this is a copy protection or some other issue. Once of the features of the unit is to be able to record live TV to watch later, if this is the case why is the unit scrambling the recording? and of course if the Macrovosion hack shows up let me know. obviously the ILO Hack does not work.
    Thanks
