I puchased this unit last September.
The unit was recording CD,VCD,SVCD and DVD's with no problem.
This past week, the recorder won't recoginze CD, VCD and VCDS.
Won't play or record, even the discs that I recorded with this unit.
Is this a hardware or a software problem??

    Please help!!!

Sometimes after reading a bad media disk the control board will function poorly. Try unplug of power (reset) for 20-30 seconds and insert a good DVD and see if it functions. Also the disk drive may need cleaning. I have several 5007's and have had to unplug to fix many times untill I upgraded to better quality DVD's (Yamakawa 4.7gb+RW). Remember these DVD recorders are really a dedicated PC computer and we all know computers lockup and need to be reset from time to time. Liteon should have had a reset button on the back of all their DVD machines, instead you have to reset by unpluging.

    Hi there!!

Thanks for the tips. I tried it, no success.
I think I'm going to break down and buy the SHW-160PS.It's available in Toronto for $47.00 CDN
I've heard this replacement works with the existing software.
Very minor physical change is required for drop in replacement.
