Just purchased subject recorder and have it up and running OK. Noticed two issues I would like clarification on:

    1. There is no output video/audio signal when in record mode. Is this normal for this unit and/or other brand units? I expected signal pass-thru from source to output jacks for easy monitoring the signal while recording. As it is, I have to set monitor (TV) input back and forth between Video 1 (when recording from VCR tape) to monitor signal and Colorstream to view the DVD recorder menu. This means I have to go via TV set to record a VCR tape, which is cumbersome, and that leads to issue 2.

    2. When recording from TV output (AV2 input on DVD recorder)the audio volume is about 50% normal. I have to turn the TV volume up to about 75-80% max for normal hearing level. Same result whether TV input is VCR or cable. Is this normal?

I have already found same issues with a second LVW-5045, which I will return tomorrow. Am thinking about returning first unit, also, but I like everything else about it and would like to know if this is normal with stand-alone DVD Recorders. Any help appreciated.

After consulting with LiteOn Tech, got issues resolved in a very prompt and professional manner - very impressed. Unit now performing in all respects and at a reasonable price. Problem was hookup configuration on which User Manual was vague.

    sharproy,

Also, make sure you have the latest firmware update in the recorder to make sure all know issues are fixed.

    Gtrman,

Does the latest firmware just rectify specific current problems with the 5045 or does it rectify both past and current problems with the 5045? As the text file attached to the latest firmware states:

    LVW-5045 Firmware Change Note :
    Version : 197
    1. Solve the bug of¡§Cannot hear Audio of source after pressed [ShowView]¡¨
    2. Solve the bug of¡§Cannot hear Audio of a DTS DVD title when resume playback
the DTS sound track from a MARKED-STOP¡¨.

    Yoti,

Firmware is not additive. When updating firmware, it erases the current firmware and replaces it with the new version. This is why, sometimes, a firmware update may fix a known issue but break something else, if the programmers weren't careful. Most of the time, a fimeware update is just a tweak of the previous version to fix certain issues. If an issue was fixed in a previous firmware version, a new version should still have that fix incorporated plus the new fixes. If your 5045 is not at 197, I would do the update. It helped to take care of the green tint problem the 5045 was having and also fixed the inability for the 5045 to play some Sony Arccos protected DVD's. If you are using your recorder to back up your VHS tapes, you can use the hacked version from my site to disable Macrovision which will allow you to back up tape that the recorder would normally not allow.

Well I could not find a model H04 of the ILO ..but I can order the Lite on 5045 for 300$ with shipping.

So does the 5045 work well? is it worth 300$ have the fixed the audio sync problems with the latest firmware?

Just want to make sure its ok before I spend 300 big ones

    Thanks in Advance every one.

Don't know if the latest firmware has fixed the audio sync problem. So far I havn't have any problems with the unit and I think it's a pretty sound unit. $300 is pretty cheap - I paid just over $500 for mine and I thought I got a bargain! Compared with the cost of other units with similar features (such as the Pioneer) it's absolute value for money. My bro bought a Pioneer DVD recorder with a 160g HD and it's features are identical to mine - however he paid over $1000.
