I have a friend at work who is ready to buy a new computer because of his problem, which he probably should do anyway, but he doesn't want to go that far if he doesn't have to. He thinks he has a virus. He's running Windows ME and lives in the US, and every time he connects to the internet his 56k modem calls Austria and it costs him like $20. He can't figure it out. Does anyone have any ideas?

virus/trojan. tell him to download & run ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com to cleanout his cookies & whatnot. run his antivirus program updated in safemode than do an online scan with www.antivirus.com free housecall to make certain system is clean. also check his msconfig for things not to be there. also run ad-aware se for spyware
