I just replaced my XBOX HDD with a Western Digital 120GB 7200 rpm 8mb buffer HDD (by the way if your in the market they are at Circuit City for 79.99 after rebates its the best deal i've seen) anyway, im running my matrix chip in swap mode and when i insert an original and then eject to disable it i get an error code 5 which means that the MS Dashboard cant load because my HDD is not locked. If anyone can explain to me how i can lock the new HDD so i can disable my chip and get on my XBOX Live account i would greatly appreciate it.

I have that exact same HD in my xbox, I've got 26 games on it and its great-check out seamonkeys guide. Slayers auto installer cdrw will also get your new HD working. I'm not sure about using live with the new HD though- I dont have Live so it wasnt a problem for me.

i ran external switches from the matrix to the front panel of the xbox. using 2 SPST toggle switches from radio shack you can use all 4 modes of the matrix without opening the box. so you can switch to mode 1 and disable it, then boot from your original and go live.

Darthnip, that sounds like a good idea. I should'nt have any trouble mounting the switches and soldering the wires to the switches but i have no idea where i would need to connect the wires to the Matrix chip. If anyone knows how to do this or has found a tutorial on the subject please let me know.

basically all you do is run from both sides of the dip switch, and set them both to off so the external switches have control. so you got 4 legs on the dip switch and 4 on the 2 toggle switches, just have 1 toggle act as dip1 and a toggle acing as dip2, easy. i found a great spot on the lower left corner of the front panel to mount the switches.

The only thing is that you could fusk something up so it might not be worth the risk if you don't plan on going on live. It really isn't hard, but I've heard you could do some damage if you do something wrong. There is no difference except that you can't boot the Microsoft bios unless it is locked.

Yeah, the only difference I have already mentioned above. You will be able to boot the normal dash once you lock it. If you try it now it shouldn't work.
