I've been using TMPGEnc for approx. a year to encode avi to VCD (mpg1). Until a few days ago it worked flawlessly; then suddenly one day I went to select source range and I noticed there was no audio recognition. I tried using an uncompressed wav as audio source (wav made in VirtualDub), but output mpg was "choppy" looking. If I try to process normally with both audio and video sources being the source avi file, output mpg comes out with no sound. If I process with an external wav, it's choppy. Any suggestions? Already tried using MainConcept instead but am fed up with all the extra work to fix aspect ratio. I just want my "old" TMPGEnc back! This happened outta nowhere.
When useing Tmpgenc you Should "ALLWAYS" decompress the audio in your AVI file before you encode the File to Mpeg format ...This is because Tmpgenc doesn"t Like Compressed audio especially AC3 and VBR MP3 format which is the Most Common format used on AVI files you download off of the Net.... Thanks for replying--- the problem isn't decompressing the audio -- virtualdub does it fine; the problem is when i DO use the avi as source video and external wav as source audio the output mpg is choppy -- the audio syncs properly but the video looks like its running at like 20 fps instead of 23.976. There were previously no problems with TMPGEnc when encoding in this manner (using uncompressed wav as audio source); now for "no reason" there are.
What do u mean by choppy? If you mean that there are horizonal lines making seem so then perhaps you need to export the avi as deinterlaced. I had to do this when mine appeared to drag lines across the screen. I also had to deselect the tick in 'no motion select' which is found under the quatize matrix tab in TMPGEnc. This will remove problems when the picture is panning. Minion, apologies if this is not %100 right as I know ur the expert. I've also posted a problem I have with encoding my avi file but it comes out black in a much smaller size than the avi file. Nothin shows in the preview either although I'm sure this is how I did it before with my first dvd i made.
Well you can Get Choppy Playback in your Files if you encode them to a different Frame rate Like when you encode a 25fps file to 29.976fps and when you incorrectly encode a 23.976fps file to 29.976fps(You Must use the "3:2 Pulldown When Playback" in the "Encode Mode" setting and use the "23.976fps(Internally 29.976fps)" Frame Rate setting when encodeing 23.976fps files to 29.976fps).... You can also Get Jumpy Playback if you are encodeing Interlaced Video with the Wrong Field order, Loading your file into Tmpgenc useing the "Wizard" will usually make it so Tmpgenc sets the Field order correctly.... Minion, I saw some of your previous notes on another thread regarding the slowing down of the frame rate using 23.956 and using a pulldown option. If I was to do this in PAL. what would be the 'Encode mode' setting for that? I know that the default for Pal is 25fps.
