Hi Guys, Just after some advice, my system seems to be struggling during certain times and am aware that the CPU is the weakest link in the setup. Any of you guys have any advice as to what would be the best CPU upgrade to compliment the rest of the components. Current System Intel MT Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86ghz 450W Corsair CMPSU-450VXUK (PSU) 4 X Western Digital 250gb Sata HDD GYGABYTE EP43 DS3L 1P43 (System Board) 4GB CORSAIR TWINX XMS2 DDR2 6400 (RAM) XFX Radeon HD4870 XXX Edition (GPU) Coolermaster Centurion Case 21" Dell Crystal View Monitor Would really appreciate any advice Thanks Guys Gav
A core 2 quad like a Q9400 or Q9550 would complement that system well. The rest of it as you say, is all relatively high spec.
Thanks for your help as always Sam, I have also been reading up on Solid state drives and see that they are the way forward but other than reliability what real benefit do they have over a standard SATA drive ?
They're fast. Seriously fast. Of course, whether you need a fast hard disk or not is up to you. They also make no noise and produce no heat, big benefits for some systems.
Hi Guys, I now have some spare cash and am finally looking to purchase a processor to add to my system as this is the only thing that is letting it down at the moment - just need some advice on what would work well with my current setup or what Sam said around a year ago still valid.. Intel MT Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86ghz 450W Corsair CMPSU-450VXUK (PSU) 4 X Western Digital 250gb Sata HDD GYGABYTE EP43 DS3L 1P43 (System Board) 4GB CORSAIR TWINX XMS2 DDR2 6400 (RAM) XFX Radeon HD4870 XXX Edition (GPU) Coolermaster Centurion Case 21" Dell Crystal View Monitor any advice is always appreciated guys Thanks
That was, if I remember rightly, referring to the use of an SSD, not a new processor? If you want to keep your system as it is, you can probably ebay a Q6600 or Q9550 to get you some more processing power, without needing to replace the board and memory.
