Ok, I'm not very knowledgable about this topic, but I know that I want to have a surround system connected to my 360. I need a reciever and all that stuff. What's a good surround system I can buy online?

Ok, do you really want a good one, or one to get by?
A good one will cost you a little money...$1500 and up.
One to get by for $400 - $800 maybe........
A good one is worth every penny!

    Ok.........)
Here's some good speakers, which includes a great subwoofer. SVS makes one of the best subwoofers on the planet, and people love their speakers too.
    http://www.svsound.com/products-sys-sbs_black.cfm

For receivers, I'd get one of these, if I was wanting to save some money:
    http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR70...3?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1221182790&sr=1-3
If I had the extra money, I'd definitely go for one of these:
    http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-380...?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1221182928&sr=1-59

You can spend as much as $5000 just for a receiver.........
You might also want to get a PS3 for the Blu ray movie capabilities. The receivers I linked to can handle the HD audio, found on Blu ray movies.

This is just a basic system actually, that can handle today's technology. As I said, you can buy more expensive receivers, and you can spend $30,000 or more, just on speakers. It all depends on what you want, and how much you're willing to spend. The speakers I linked to, along with either receiver, will be a very good system, without spending many thousands of dollars.

For $1000, get the Onkyo receiver, and some JBL speakers from Best Buy or Circuit City. May find others you like besides JBL.......

Also, this one is ok, but I think you'd be happier in the long run, if you get the SVS speakers, Onkyo receiver, and PS3 for blu ray.

for myself, I 'd buy any denon receiver and bose speakers. No speakers can give u the output bose can. Blv me:) even if they r second hand. just go to the nearest BOSE store and ask them to give u a demonstration and u'll know wat m talkin abt.

When you test the sound, test it in a very low volume bcz any receiver can produce high volume but the most important thing is calrity. with Bose even the sound is -40DB its crystal clear.

u mite think m a salesrep from Bose but m not. try it yrself n c

    hope it helps

    B -- buy

    O -- other

    S -- Sound

    E -- equiptment

look up some definitive technologies speakers, will blow the Bose stuff away (and priced about the same). Knowledgeable audio enthusiists know Bose is mainly advertising, and poorly made with poor engineering

Actually professor bose invented the technology BOSE has. but anyways. gimme yr brilliant ideas and I am open to try other speakers.

dont tell me u'r comparing it with JBL etc.

Stay as far away as possible from Bose!
No good highs, no good lows.... it must be Bose!
    Bose blows!

    ptlsalz.........
Read this honest review of Bose:
    http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html

There is a reason you won't see Bose recommended by folks at Home Theater forums. Go to any home theater forum, and do a search for Bose, and read what folks have to say about them.

    BTW..........
I'd buy JBL before I'd buy Bose.........any day.)

As I mentioned before, I've tried a lot of systems e.g. jbl, jvc, sony, pioneer, aiwa etc and finally I got the surround sound I wanted from Bose. I am not too sure why you guys are so against it so much. All these systems are nowhere near Bose.

No matter what these HONEST REVIEWS!!! say, I smell hatred from these reviews which is another marketing tactic. anyways - v all have our preferences - as an end user, all I can say is the sound quality you get from any other speakers is nowhere near Bose - The choice is yours. :)

    Cheers

I'm glad it doesn't take much to impress you. You should go through life a happy person!

    Because they suck!
Thank goodness you're right! They are so far ahead of Bose, that it's not even funny.
Again, thank goodness you're right! I guess EVERYBODY in the home theater world is wrong, and you're right? Like I said, go to any home theater forum and see what they think of Bose. Any of them.

Bose won't give you any information on their speakers, that every other manufacturer will, such as frequency response, sensitivity, etc.
It's not because it's a secret. It's because they know if you understand the numbers they give you, you'll know you're not getting your money's worth!

Back in the 60s and early 70s, Bose built some pretty decent speakers (301, 501, 901). But over the years, their quality went downhill, and the prices went ridiculously high, for what you get. They don't even build a real subwoofer. They build a bass module, which is a piece of crap! If you're putting the surround system in a closet, Bose will be just fine. But if you're setting it up in a real room, you can buy so much better for the same money. I can take you to Best Buy, and put together a system, for the same money the Bose costs, that will blow the Bose right out the door. The Bose will put their tail between their legs, and run off yapping like a hurt dog............

People that are seriously into home theater, want to buy the best they can get, for their money. Why aren't they buying Bose? They have bought it, and are now selling them on Craig's List, once they find out they screwed up. Check your local Craig's List. You'll be able to buy more of your precious Bose speakers, to put in every room, at a bargain.
    Enjoy your Bose speakers!)

I would go with the onkyo, Not a fan of denon products.

You could also look into some energy speakers, Not quite as good as they used to be, But will still eat any bose system alive.

I mean bose still use paper cones and plastic cabinets, Stay the hell away from that overpriced, over hyped crap.

Geez. Lighten up a bit. Bose isn't bad if you have too much money and can't hear very well. Well....on second thought....

Anyway, on the speaker end you might try out some KEF gear. Their KHT-3005 units are CRYSTAL clear at normal television viewing/listening volumes and produce brilliant highs and lows. They're a bit pricy at about $2k per system, but worth the money IMHO.

On the receiver end, you can't go wrong with the Denon 3808CI previously recommended. If you don't want to pay for name as much as function (as you might with Denon and definitely would with Bose) you can try the Sony STR-DA4400ES. It has six HDMI inputs and provides full upscaling so that you can use a single HDMI output to your viewing device, regardless of sources (as does the 3808CI...though the CI arguably has better video processing hardware/software) The Sony is about $200 less than the Denon.

YMMV, but I definitely recommend against spending unnecessary money on underperforming Bose kit.

hi...i was in ur shoes about 2months ago..didn't know what to buy or even where to start. i'll put a checklist on some of the basics you will need to start ur theatre system:

    1. Receiver (Onkyo,Denon,Pioneer,Sony,Yamaha)
you will connect all ur devices cable/dvr,xbox,dvd,blu-ray,via HDMI through ur reciever (for highest quality on sound and audio)...make sure the receiver you buy has enough HDMI connectors for ur devices
    typically 3-5.
my recommened pick is the PIONEER ELITE VSX-01TXH
retail $750,,POWERSELLER NYC. has it for just under $500//powersellernyc.com
just released in Aug 08..this receiver looks sleek and is powerful.

2.Speakers.and Subwoofer.. there are all kinds of surround speakers you can choose from..depending where you live apt or house...
satallites are small and usually good for apts, while bookshelves and floor standing are great for a house..
    i live in an apt...i have Mirage nanosat's...i love'em.
check the watt power...80,90,100,etc... your choice

    3. Surge protector:..in case of a power outage.
Monster has the best in the HDP 1800 8outlet retail $299 and HDP 2500 11outlet retail $399.00...these are consoles and look very nice.
not only do they protect ur devices, but they also filter "dirty Power", so you can have clean power running through ur receiver.
will make ur HDTV and ur sound crisp and clearer.
ONECALL.Com has the best deal on the monster HDP 2500 $293.00 no tax and free shipping!!!

Accessories: speaker stands (optional), monster has the preferred speaker wires and HDMI cables,.

Bottome line:..Do some research on all products before you buy.
go to ur local: Best Buy, Circuit City, Fry's, Crutchfield,
and browse through their products.. feel free to ask questions to the sales rep..
they usually offer home theatre setup which is Great..cuz it will save you time an money and hours of heartache trying to put everything yourself...i read on some of the A/V forums and you won't believe how many people are saying they can't get it to work.

Try not to buy everything in Retail...you can usually browse through Pricegrabber or Nextag and find really good internet deals (will save you hundreds of dollars)..even cheaper than E-BAY.

one last note:...might want to get some Renter's insurance if you are renting...all this "high Tech stuff might be eye candy for some bonehead you thought you trusted.

    hoped this help..good luck
