I had a HDD crash and replaced the HD. I had backed the whole drive up and restored it to the new drive with moderate success. My main irritant is that the drive letter desigantions were all different - except for the C: drive. I can't get my slave drive back to the original assigned D: and my DVD & CD burners back to E: & F: I find that in the Administrative Tools under Computer Management most of the letter designations I had used previously are gone. Is there any way to add them back in or am I stuck with the remainders like X, Y and Z? Micrsoft seems to be of no help - big surprise.

Use the Disk Management snap-in when you want to add, to change, or to remove drive letters on drives, on partitions, or on volumes on your computer's hard disks, CD-ROM drives, and other removable media devices. Your computer can use up to 26 drive letters, from A through Z. Use drive letters C through Z for hard disk drives. Drive letters A and B are reserved for floppy disk drives. However, if your computer does not have a floppy disk drive, you can assign these letters to removable drives.
