I'm trying to play castlevania:dawn of sorrow with m3 real, the game loads fine, but in certain part of the game, the graphics would glitch (blurry mass/white box), sometimes with the text box as well. When this happens, the music would go insane too, basically normal game music is replaced by extremely loud beeps. After a while the game freezes. This only occur in certain parts of the game...the rest seems ok.

I'm pretty new to DS so I don't have lot of other games, I tried advance wars DS, it seems to work fine. I also re-downloaded the rom from other websites, they all seem to be in same file/size...and the problem still occur.

I'm got the lastest driver from console source, tried Sakura too, same problem. I'm using Kingston 4G micro SD card formatted in fat32.

    i also have m3 real
with my experience some roms just don't work
i don't know if its m3 or if its the rom
but i have had that same problem with personal trainer:cooking
where most the game would work but at one part it would freeze
but other than that 99% of my roms work perfectly..it just seems to be a couple

also when you get your sd card too filled up or you turn too many cheats on the game freezes/doesnt load but that doesnt sound like your problem

That's really sad...I didn't know there were roms that didn't work with m3, I would have considered something else if I had knew. What other roms won't work, is there a solution to this?

I don't think its the rom's problem, my copy is 0105 castlevania:dawn of sorrow (E), all the website I went to have the exact same file, unless there is another version out there I don't know about.

I am not using at cheats, and my micro SD card is like 90% empty so...

M3 Simply - Based on the R4 no support will not play same games without a work around

M3 Perfect - Slot 2 - no longer supported plays some games

M3 Real - Plays all games - the Castlevania game has issues playing with some SD cards - this is a know issue. Try changing the SD card for a quicker one (class 6), format with panasonics SD formatter.

With that card - when you get close to the freeze - open aand close the lid till the game jumps past the freezing point and it will then play normally again.

It is not an issue with the M3 real - if you have the latest software it plays all released roms!!!

I have an M3 real and the only game I ever glitched in is kirby superstar ultra. It froze on completion of a game when you return to the main menu.

I played that awhile ago though, it may have been fixed by now.

Thanks, um...what do you mean by closing/opening the lid until the game jump past freeze point?
I don't have any stores near me that sell micro SD, getting a class 6 card will be quite troublesome. Is this an issue with all castlevania games or just the one I'm playing? I plan to play the other two games but if this happens again...

I just formatted my SD card with panasonic SD formater from here, game still freezes, never mind that...is there a card that is guaranteed to work? As in people had the card have tested with the all castlevania games and other potential problematic games. I don't mind going a bit extra to get a good card, but I have to make sure it actually works.

oh and babefish it looks like m3 released a new firmware! i read about it on gbatemp. it has some anti-piracy fixes which may fix your game, its suppose to fix chrono trigger ds for sure
and they tested all rom's up to #3500 and they all worked

Updated firmware, didn't change anything. I don't know what closing the lid is suppose to do, I tried in area with graphical glitch, glitch stays (music stopped when I shut the lit but nothing changed once I open), tried after freeze (music didn't stop, and of course nothing happened after).

I don't know how they tested the roms ... its not something that fails right at the start, but something that often happens when you are in the game.

While I'm happy that whatever games you play works ok on M3, this thread is about a specific problem with a specific game. Unless you played castlevania and finished it without any problem, your inputs on other games are irrelevant here. If you did though, I like to know what SD card, rom, Firmware you used (with m3 real of course).

Kitty says its the problem with my SD card. From what I gather the kingston brand is pretty good, and its a class 4, should be classified as a above-average card at least. I am willing to spend more on a better card, but I need assurance that it fixes the problem.

This has been a topic on gbatemp.net

It is down to the SD card, I have had issues with Kingston (freezing) and I now only use Sandisk - others will swear that Kingston is the best, all down to personal experience.

The opening and closing of the lid gets you past the freezing point, how you do it is quite critical, read the topic - this will tell you to do it.

I consider the M3 to be best of the mid range - cyclo is the best by far, but M3 runs in second with Sakura.

I use a Sandisk class 2 (but dont play Castlevania) so cant tell you what card to get to get over this issue. Compared to some other cards this is a very minor issue.

This is not a minor issue for me, or any players that play castlevania. From what I searched online and at Gbatemp, both caslevania DoS and PoR have had problems with m3 real for many people ... and no one has yet to confirm that a faster class card solves this issue.

I also looked into the open/close lid method, I could only find a procedure for another game "the world ends with you", and it was simple since the game only freeze at one cut-scene near the start. Whereas castlevania has many many freeze points and many graphical glitches that made the games unplayable.

Unless you know a thread that specifically deals with castlevania freezes and the lid method ... if so can you kindly link the thread?

So far castlevania seems to be a extremely problematic game for many m3 real users, I saw many help threads at Gbatemp that went unsolved in the end ... I hope someone find a solution to this.

babefish, can you tell me exactly where you're having issues in the game? Because I have an M3Real with an 8gig Transcend class 6 microSDHC flashcard.

I played Castlevaina DoS on it with the touchpod firmware and the 4gig microSD (same brand and specs) awhile back with zero issues.

Just for you I started up a game on PoR and played for a half hour. Saw no problems. I'm using the most current sakura firmware and the 8gig card Transcend card.

Is there a way to make screen shots on the DS and transfer them to PC? I think pics are much easier for me to explain than words.

As for PoR, the game freezes randomly, mostly right after I exit the menu/inventory.

Portrait of Ruin and the freezing on leaving the menu is a well known glitch across many flashcarts, it is caused when the SD card is too slow to handle the loading.

I also started a new game in Dawn of Sorrow to test it running on the sakura firmware. This time I did see some minor graphical glitches in the starting cutscene. No sound problems, just some gray boxes on the screen edges. So I played for an hour to see if they returned but they did not.
