mac upgrading help

    hey i have a old powermac....i want to modernize it.. put a cd writer/dvd rom drive(possiblity of a dvd burner)
    upgrade the hard drive to 20-40 gigs..... and make it faster....
    (sorry i have extremly little knowlege on macs...)

    what will i need to make it faster?

    what type of hard drive will i need

    do i need a specific cd writing drive or will any work

    will i need a new like... operating system?
