baabaa - "The Hurting" is one of my all-time favorite albums. Although I don't particularly despise the Jules version, it can't hold a candle to the original. The Jules version was used in the movie "Donnie Darko" (another fave) when they should have used the original. The soundtrack had all kinds of great stuff like "The Killing Moon" by Echo & The Bunnymen, "Under The Milky Way" by The Church and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division yet they felt the need to use a cover of "Mad World" when the original would have fit much better. Oh well, you're not alone, chief!

Too true, baabaa. It seems such a disservice that so many prefer the cover. One of the few covers that I really enjoy is Mazzy Star's version of "Sweet Jane" by Velvet Underground. Very different, but still a great cover methinks.

Never heard of Alex Parks. This is ridiculous. Piss on 'em.

Hey, baaba - You ever listen to The Chameleons? One of the best bands I've ever listened to.

You saying you'd lower your otherwise high standards and rent a spare room to a Yank from Arizona? I'd love to visit and see if Oriphus can really play soccer! ;)

If you happen to come across "Strangetimes" by The Chameleons, it is an outstanding listen.

Arizona is awesome! I've lived here all my 31 years and love it. The desert is a truly beautiful landscape. I live in Glendale, which is a suburb of Phoenix, which lies in the middle of a large valley so you have some beautiful mountains all around. The Grand Canyon (you have to see it in person to believe it)is a days drive from here. The mountains and forest are about two hours away if you want to cool off and smell the pines or do a little snowboarding. Mexico is a days drive as well with some of the greatest food on Earth - there is nothing like home made red beef tamales and a few cold Negra Modelos. They just built a brand new hockey stadium thirty minutes from my house so now I can get a badly needed hockey fix! There is top-notch fishing and hunting throughout the state too. You get the picture.
Apparently alot of other people do to - literally thousands of new homes are built all around Phoenix every year.

I'd love to visit the U.K. some day. I want to ride a double-decker bus, then visit the "Glen Eagle" hotel that Fawlty Towers was based on and then hit a pub to have some real stout and smoke some English Ovals.

Sorry to upset you Tears For Fears fans, since i myself am a fan. but i think that (ghasp) the gary jules version is a beter version. I actually listen to the lyrics, they suite a far more sombre song than the TFF version, sorry.
and yes, oh my god, the Alex Parks version, what can i say, geniouses that work in the UK music industry, have seen that gary jules' version could make it big, so they've blatantly plagiarised it and put a more popular face to the song, it's almost identical, infact, anyone playing them alongside will note no variation in speed, just a little on the key...

anyways, sorry. but yes, it is quite depressing, but it always was, gary jules just wrote it as TFF should have written it.. check this for proof [IMG]

I'm overjoyed for Curt, Roland and Gary but I still like the original much better. Alot of memories attatched to it. I'm afraid a thousands new and "better" covers can't do that for me.
