    Well; just a bit ago; I obtained my first copy of the halloween 6 producer's cut; some may know it is very rare and that the quality is never too great on them.....

    ...So after watching the movie; and having to deal with 2 hour of constant color shifting and what-not; I thought---why not reauthor this whole movie and create a better quality version for myself??

    Because; there were only a few scenes in the p-cut that are different from the theatrical cut; so I was thinking I could do this:

    -Convert the whole theatrical cut main movie .vob to a editable format (preferably an uncompressed?)
    -Then convert the crappy quality producer's cut main movie .vob to an editable format
    -Now; I would take all of the "deleted scenes" from the producer's cut and have them as individual clips. Then; with those I would do my best to restore the deleted scenes with Virtual Dub filters and the like.
    -Then; I would have the rest of the movie taken from the awesome quality dvd theatrical cut
    -When clips are ready; I would mix the dvd quality clips with the crappy-yet-somewhat-enhanced quality clips to make a new and improved producer's cut movie for myself!!!

    NOTICE: Lastly; as another good addative to restoring this movie; i would take the full movie audio track from the producer's cut (for the sake of it having better music) and try to edit out the hiss in something like Soundforge;

    To finish it off------Then; after all of the editing is done; I would have to convert the freshly restored main movie to .vob format.....then; I would basically switch out my awesome quality p-cut .vob with the crappy one so that way I would have the same exact p-cut dvd in the end; but just different (better) quality!

    ---sorry for all the info; but that's pretty much what I want to do with this.....

    [bold]So my final questions are::
    What is the best order to go in as far as converting/editing the movie?

    What is the best file type(s) to use for these clips--I'd like to keep each video clips original quality and to make it easy for the process of manipulating them in one software and changing to another.

    What is a list of all the softwares you reccomend me to use with this project?
    [/bold]

    I know; this is a lot of crap to say; but I am very motivated to do this:)

    If you want to go uncompressed with DVD, make sure you have at least 500GB of free HDD space. Uncompressed DVD takes TONS of space. About 1.8GB per minute!!!

    mpeg-2 is not great for editing, but what it seems like you want to do is add and replace cells. This means you can probably accomplish it with VobBlanker alone.

    Rip the theatrical cut with DVD Decrypter and split the files by cell. You can use IFO Mode. Then rip the entire p-cut.

    Not, open the p-cut in VobBlanker and replace the cells there with the appropriate cell from the theatrical version. I have never tried this, but I remember the option in VobBlanker. Just experiment and also check out the VobBlanker guides at the main page of the software.

    If the audio is different, you may actually have a major editing task ahead. I have not seen Halloween 6 in a long time. Also, I only saw whichever version was out on VHS...

    Oh, by the way, you will not have to re-author the movie if VobBlanker works out. You will just replace the cells and process the DVD. Just fix the chapter tables with PGCEdit after VobBlanker is finished.
