    Hi,
I'm trying to put an MPEG2 or AVI file (I can convert to either) on a DVD and have it play one file without having a menu. The software I have from Roxio insists on a using a menu. I've tried burning it with the menu and it works once I click play at the menu - and then I've copied that DVD to disc and tried deleting the actual menu files to get rid of the menu - but it never works right afterwards.
I don't mind buying software to make it do this without a menu but I don't know which to get (that isn't $500.00 or more).
Does anyone know how I can do this simply? I've tried just burning the MPEG2 file to a CD and to a DVD and it won't play in my DVD player, but if I just use the software and let it create a menu and leave it alone on the disc - it works fine(with the menu). Since the DVD player I own is pretty new and can play all kinds of discs (MP3 audio, etc), I'm assuming that I am just messing the discs up by experimenting. Anyone that knows how to do this - I'd appreciate your advice. I'm a newbie with DVD stuff so if you write back, please use plain english terms.
Thanks to all for the help.

    Hi Dennis...

Keep in mind that most players for recognizing and playing a movie need to have the info provided in a special way. That special way is reached by converting your movie onto a standard format, to do so you need to author your project.

A good software for authoring a DVD with menues is TMPG DVD Author. It's easy to use, a step-by-step procedure, and its results are satisfactory. The software even gives you the alternative of burning with Nero (suggestion: use a DVDRW for testing your creation on your stand alone player)

If you want to go into more professional lores you can try DVDlab Pro which is way much better and complete...

    Cheers

Thank you for your answer. In fact I read some other threads after writing the help message and I found that exact same program mentioned. I just downoaded the free trial and it will let me create "author" the DVD without any menu. I've just finished the first DVD and it worked fine. That leads to one other question that I'm not sure is as easy to solve: My DVD disk has one chapter on it and no menu. I would prefer to have it automatically replay the chapter over and over endlessly. I did not see that command on any DVD authoring software so far. I know some DVD players have this feature on a remote button, but I'd like to set the DVD to do this without any user interaction. I'm using the DVD's to run displays that need to repeat continuously and the less that users have to go press buttons after power failures, the better off I am.
Is there any DVD authoring software that can set the DVD to repeat the chapter over and over with no user intervention? I checked my DVD player and it has that option on the remote but not in the setup screen - so everytime power is cycled, we will have to press that repeat button. I know that's not a big deal but once I finish my work, these machines will be left to very unskilled workers that can turn them on, but nothing more unless I write detailed instructions. We have about 15 of these that I'm converting from old laserdisc format to DVD. The prior system had a proprietary controller box attached to the laserdisc player that made it restart by itself.
    Any ideas?

Thanks again for answering the prior email.

I don't recall right now if DVD author does that (you should read the help section) but I know positively that DVDlab Pro (the next step in authoring) does that. As a matter of fact, I think the default option is continuous playback.

DVDlab Pro has far more features than TMPG DVD author, and its complexity is a bit more, although not much IMHO.
