make a .gif from a video?

    ive heard its possible on a mac, but is there a way to make a gif from a video?

    Do you mean a screen shot of the video? What is the file format of the video? What are you using to play it with?

    i have done that with windows GIF Animator at my Collage but i can't seem to find it on the internet to donwload!
    I just draged a .avi 10 sec clip and saved it as a .gif!!
    If anyone knows where to get windows gif animator plaese help

    I tryied with some programs and this is what i found:

    Animagic GIF Animator 1.06 -- Works But Crashes ALOT 2-5

    vidgif won't take any of the video formats that i give it. MPEG, MP4, AVC, WMV nothing.

    How concerned are you about the quality? If you don't mind having a little grainyness try and get a copy of Macromedia Flash 8, it has a built in video encoder. You can import into flash, mess with it all you want(even add in animation if you choose) then publish it as a GIF. I did this with some Counter Strike Source videos I was making and it was very fluid and pretty high res.

    Codeman74 have u tryied avi files because the ONLY format i know and used that gif animators will take

    i never could convert a video into AVI. i use a program called video 9.

    but then once you turn it to avi it saves in the video 9.

    a very simple way is useing windows movie maker and save it as a avi file. there should alot of compression options
