Audacity is a decent free audio editor, you can chop up your song using it.

try doing a search for a program called Cool Edit Pro . I feel it works the best for me for putting songs on my Nextel. Just make sure you have the right settings for your phone when you shorten it, you'll probably also have to convert it to 8000mhz mono

use that prog to chop up and convert your audio files to make them smaller. it gives you the option to choose a start and end point to take the audio (or video) from. you can only encode 5 mins with this demo version but since your making files fit onto your phone it shouldnt matter.

Also try out other audio formats to mp3 (youll find theres quite a range to choose from in that prog) some formats make conciderably smaller files than mp3 and becasue its going to be playing through a phone you can afford to lose a little quality
