Can someone please help me here? I'm trying to put a bunch of old roms into a DVD+R disc but when I try it with Nero it's saying the disc is not supported. Can you make data discs with DVD+R's? I don't know what to do, should they be formatted or something? Please respond with any suggestions!

What drive do you have? Not all drives support DVD+R!

To determine the make and model as well as a host of information about your optical drives, a free program called InfoTools can do the trick. Start it up and under the Drive tab, it will list all the relevant specifications and capabilities of your burner. The actual name of your burner is listed in the drop-down box at the top (those numbers before the name of your burner are important too!). You can get InfoTools from http://www.cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/nero_info_tool.cfm

Ok, my drive says Sony DVD RW DRU-510A. Most of the options are checked under supported write and read. shouldn't it work then? is there something else that has to be done, like maybe these discs need to be formatted or something? I've also used these DVD+R discs to burn a dvd-r, so that means my drive must support them right? i just can't get them to work as data files.

Which version of nero are you using ? In Nero Tool Kit , you should be able to see if your burner is being recognized.

I would hope Sony drives support DVD+R since Sony is a major support of it! Does Nero InfoTools say there is support for DVD+R though? :)

WOW i thought so too consdiering SOny is the big player in the DVD+R consortium or whatever you call it. In either case, since the drive doesnt support DVD+R, you can look for a firmware hack (dont hold your breath). Odds are however you will have to use DVD-R (yay! :p)

For various firmwares pay a visit to http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

That particular model of Sony DOES support DVD+R !

** Note : There are patches there for WindowsXP and a new firmware.

1)Verify that you have the back jumper in the right slot
    2)Check your ASPI
3)You didnt say which version of NERO you had ! --
4)Uninstall completely Nero and re-install after a reboot.

Does it matter? (as long as the app recognizes the drive and considering the 510 is not bleeding edge, there's no reason it shouldnt recognize it)

I dont follow Sony drives much... which ones dont? (or if need by, officially dont)

1)Earlier version of Nero (5.215 and before) had inherent bugs with some Sony CD-Writer

2)The DRU-500 does not -- as a matter of fact the DRU-510A is one of the first Dual Drive put out by Sony in September 03'.

My Nero version is 6.3.0.2. I went into Nero burning rom and then clicked on about Nero, so I hope I did this right. sorry i'm a newbie to all this. But in InfoTools CDR+R was not checked, so I guess that means it's not supported right?

Latest Version of Nero is 6.3.1.17 -- The Upgrade is free to owners of Nero version 6.

There are a lot of threads on this forum explaining just that ! I picked one at random using the Little Search Box on top of this page -- !!

Thanks to Praetor (Moderator on this forum)-- you will find a complete bundle where you are thought how to do this.

Ok I updated to the latest ASPI drivers and it still didn't solve my problem. Am I suppose to go into test drive and then Create data disc under Run Test? I tried doing that and it put a bunch of files on the disc.

yea but i've already downloaded and burned a dvd-r movie, so the drive can't get defective right? i'm just having a problem creating data discs with DVD+r's. When I first put a disc in after opening, it wasn't even recognized when I went to my dvdrom. like it didn't show the capacity or anything like that.

When I put a blank in it reads 0 free 0 used. Have you tried burning anything onto it?
