Hi folks, I've been working on a project that requires me to cut bits and pieces from a collection of different DVDs and compile them into a single "best of" disc. But I'm so far getting disappointing results, and am wondering if there is a better or easier way. Here's how I've been going about it: 1) I rip the source DVD into an avi file with AutoGK 2) I convert the avi file to MPEG with TMPGENC (I do this because my audio will end up out of sync if I try to convert straight from avi to DVD) 3) I edit the video clips with Ulead Video Studio 7 SE, and create separate MPEG files for each clip 4) Repeat the process with my other source DVDs until I have all the clips I want for my "best of" DVD 5) Then I create one big MPEG file from all of my clips edited together 6) I author the DVD with TMPGENC DVD Author 3 I make sure the video is always at 720x480 resolution, and encode it with 2-pass VBR, but it always seems to end up looking poor quality. And this process takes days due to all of the encoding. Please someone tell me there is a better or easier way!
Every time you convert, you lose quality. You go from DVD to Avi, Avi to mpeg, and then another conversion back to DVD. Every time you lose quality. Why don't you edit the video as is, in DVD format, cut/paste the VOBs?
Why do not you try Mpeg Video Wizard DVD. You can import VOB files from different DVD, cut and join in time line, add .bmp file in between, if you want, to identify clips or make transition. Export DVD.
Thanks guys. I will try that out. I didn't know I could work with VOB files like that. I've also come across the program DVD Lab 2. Is that worth trying for this?
DVD Lab is a very good software, but it is strictly a DVD authoring program. You cannot do anything else with it, except produce a pro looking DVD from DVD compliant file. You can try it for 30 dayes.
The quickest way, if you don't need menus, is to rip the source DVD(s) then use DVD Shrink in reauthor mode. No quality loss, unless you decide to shrink it too.
Thanks again for the help everyone. Suba, I downloaded that program, and it is exactly what I needed. Working great!
