hi, new to this, so go easy on me... I have a new Sony vaio PC with dvd/r drive by mashita. Having trouble with getting copying program to work and think I need a firmware update. Unfortunately, I don't know how to locate "Mashita" to inquire about same... anyone know of a good link (I searched the i-net and that's how I found out about this site.) Thanks. g
Have you tried contacting Sony? If they are installing this burner on their machines then they should be offering some type of support for it.
Sony is useless. The whole reason I'm having trouble is the DVD region has set itself to "Region 8"...apparently used for airlines & cruiseships. This isn't even an option in the region menus, but Sony insists I must have accidently set it to that. I explained the system shows region 1, but will not play any region DVDs (except all/region free). They state they can't reset the system due to copywrite laws or some BS like that. Strongly recommending against sony for PC... g
Ok your drive is a Matshita and is made by Matsushita who also is Panasonic. So oddly you have a Panasonic DVD-r in your Sony computer....go figure. Here is a link to Matsushita in Europe: http://www.panasonic-europe.com/home.aspx and here is their global site: http://www.panasonic.co.jp/global/ The actual Matsushita site is all in Japanese and is very hard to read...especially since I can't read Japanese, but if you do here it is: http://matsushita.co.jp/ and http://panasonic.jp/ Also here is Panasonic's site for the USA: http://www.panasonic.com/ Hope some of this will help you out.
Thanks much. Turns out though that Matshita does not have any firmware updates for the model I have and the software for CSS decrypting will not work with matshita nor do they intend to make them compatible... I'm sure this is just another Sony ploy to dominate and dictate how to use and what to use. Thanks again. g
