    hi,

I got this math question i have homework and i cant figure it out can someone help me?? There it is word for word. thanks

Solve the following System of Equations

    x- 2y + Z =8
    x- 3y - z =0
    2x - 6y + z =6

All the x`s,y`s and z`s have to be the same.

    thanks

I inferred that x y & z were equal in all equations, so I could not work it out. Did I mis-read?

Time's the x's together, than time's the y's together than time'sthe z's together than times the answer's together and you get this (I think):

    2x - 36y + z = 48

    So y obviously equals 1 I think

Solve the rest. Corrrect me if i'm wrong

Baldbear is right but I thought that I'd explain it.
    [bold]
    Quote

I assume this means that they are all integers.

    Eqn 1: X - 2Y + Z = 8
    Eqn 2: X - 3Y - Z = 0
    Eqn 3: 2X - 6Y + Z = 6

I have replaced common 'x' with capital 'X' so that it's not confused with the multiply sign. Y & Z were also placed in capitals since X was placed in caps.

    Taking eqn 2: X - 3Y = Z
    Call this [bold]Eqn 4: ie Z = X - 3Y[/bold]
Now Substitute eqn 4 into eqn 1:
    So: X - 2Y + (X - 3Y) = 8
    Therefore 2X - 5Y = 8
    So 2X = 8 + 5Y
    Therefore X= (8 + 5Y)/2
    Call this [bold]eqn 6: X = (8 + 5Y)/2[/bold]
    Now subsitute eqns 4 & 6 into eqn 3
    So 2 x (8 + 5Y)/2 -6Y + (8 + 5Y)/2 -3Y = 6
    Therefore 8 + 5Y - 6Y - 3Y + (8 + 5Y)/2 = 6
    Leads to 8 - 4Y + 4 + 5Y/2 = 6
    So -4Y + 5Y/2 = -6
    So (-8Y + 5Y)/2 = -6
    Therefore -8Y + 5Y = -12
    Hence -3Y = -12
    So [bold]Y = 4[/bold]

Now substitute Y into eqn 6:
    So X = (8 + 20)/2
    So [bold]X = 14[/bold]

    Now substitute X & Y into eqn 4
    So Z = 14 - 12
    [bold]Z = 2[/bold]

It's the long and arduous way to calculate these "simple equations" but hopefully you now see how we arrive at the answers.

wait a second guys..your forgetting the first rule
u must allways include the universal gravitaion!
so if we state that y = y must you do this
and x= the price of tea in china(360 yen/ounce)
then z must= the amount of frictional force of the pen writeing on the paper

to find z you must use the formula Ffriction=Fnet-Fapplied

    Fnet= univeral gravitaional contstans(G)*mass1(m1)*mass2(m2)/distance(d)
    squared!

hence 6.67*10to the 7th*mass of pen*mass of paper/distance you move pen over paper squared shall give u Fnet

to find Fapplied grab a pointy rusty fish scale, close ur eyes and put with a sharp jerk to find how much force can apply

now put this all into a kinematics formula such as velocity final squared=velocity initial squared + 2*acceleration*distance

once youve done this..go jump off bridge bc you have now wasted your time, will fail math, drop out of school and end up working as a john to suppost your crack habbits and several child suppost cases!

    HAVE FUN!

(ps droogie01 waivers all resonsabilty for actions take due to this forum, be advised , contact a physican before jumping off bridge)

Really now Droogie!, I think you need to be X'd.
'Y' you ask?,..............so the rest of us can get some Z's, lol.
    j/k
