Hello, this is my 1st thread. My dvd/cd drive just stopped working. before i go out & spend £200 on a new one (assuming motor has gone), i thought i'd check something. (I have a toshiba a80-132 by the way). I read somewhere that if you have more than 2 external devices operating, one of them may not be recognised (master & servant theory?). Anyway, i say this because it stopped working when using a USB port and the headphone socket 7 cd drive at same time. Is there any mileage in my theory. if so how do i get it back (my cd drive). at the moment my laptop recognises it and can get it to eject, but the cd/dvd's make the right initial noises but then don't load. Thank you,
Hi lefrere33 What's happens when you don't have the external devices connected to the laptop? All okay then or still a problem? You can check Toshiba's site and see if there is a firmware update for the drive. My experience with Matshit isn't great. When you say stopped working what's actually happening - like it can read dvd,cd's or burn to them?
guess what? it is not working again. says d drive not accessible due to an I/O device error. basically it is not reading the discs, but still recognises the drive. any idea?
Ok try uninstalling the drive in device manager - rebooting and let windows do it's thing and reinstall. Right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager. Click the plus next to dvd/cd drives. Right click on the drive and pick uninstall. After rebooting check the drive in device manger and see if the are any yellow exclamations or red x's - if there are post back what they say.
