Well, got this preinstalled in my laptop when I got it about a year ago, and the DVD part of my CD/DVD combo drive has ceased to function entirely. I can still write and read CDs and CD-RWs, but any DVD inserted causes a temporary lockup and then a generic I/O device error. The drive also makes a strange grinding noise when any disc is inserted, which sounds (for lack of onomotopaea) like two plastic cogs trying to go in opposite directions. It's an ECS G900 laptop, if anyone knows anything about the brand; and I'm just hoping the drive isn't dead because I don't really have the $150 to pay for a new drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
