Hello everyone. I amfixing a computer for a friend. She has an HP m7350n. First she was getting a "Code Purple" error that alot of HP and Compaqs get when you change out the hardware or motherboard then you try and do a system restore. Well I got past that by doing a little googling. After that I was able to get a boot to the desktop. I found that it had alot of spy/adware and AVG picked up a virus. I decided to reinstall the whole OS and backed up some of her files. The computer did not want to boot from the CDs HP sent ger the restore the OS. We decided to install another version of Media Center 2005. It booted up fine then I installed the drivers from the CD that came with her motherboard(Oh yeah, about a year ago her motherboard fried and she had someone else install a new one). Everything looks fine except one thing. Media Center's giving me an error. It says, "Tuner Not Found. The tuner hardware is either malfunctioning or not installed". I don't know why. Nero7 is picking up the cable signal perfectly. So is WinTV Capture. When I go to device manager it says I have the Hauppage PVR PCI II(26xxx) installed. I'm guessing that's the same one as PVR-150. That's the one I think came with her system. I don't know how to find out. Anyway, I uninstalled it in Device Manager and then rebooted to install the driver again and says the same thing under Device Manager so I'm guessing that it's the same one. It still gives the same error. I know the tuner worked on Media Center before I reinstalle dthe OS. o I know it's not the new motherboard. Can anyone please help? I've been at this for almost a week off and on. Everything else is fine. This is the only thing holding me up. I might ust reinstall the OS again. Thamks for any help and sorry for the long post. I just wanted to get everything out cause I thought it might help.
One of the things I usually do when installing an OS...is to do it with the bare minimum hardware. All PCI cards are taken out, and so forth. One thing you might try, is to uninstall the tuner...and clean up the registry with CCleaner, or RegSeeker. Remove the card, and place it in an adjacent PCI slot. Restart the computer, and then install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website. Some PCI cards work better when you install the drivers from the package...others when you update them thru Device Manager by just pointing it to the new .inf file.
It's still not working. The hard drive still has the recovery partition that HP sets up for you when you first purchase it. Is their any way I can make that into a bootable disk? I can't access it by just clicking on it. What I did was back it up on 2 discs using Nero7. Then I copied the files from the 2 discs on to 2 separate file on the C drive. Is there anyway I can use these to restore the computer to how it originally was? Please help. Roland
The recovery partition is usually accessible when you start the system. Either there's a keyboard key you press, or there should be a startup menu to choose either XP or Recovery.
