Hi, My WMP doen not work (says "connecting to media" and lasts for ever without doing anything). My question is "how can I make Media Player Classic to be as a default player for all my browsers (here are my browsers: IE, Opera 8, Firefox and Netscape 8). Thanks a lot for any help.
I think Gabast (the author) has been tinkering with the capability of using MPC for embedded browser support, but I don't think it'll get much out of the development stage. But if it does, it'll be a very cool feature, where (for some reason) you can control the program through a webpage. As for your question, I don't think you can change which player you can use in a browser, becuase the person who coded the website put WMP as the default player in the site. This would be most likely due to compatibilty issues, which is basically beyond your control. If it's having problems loading, it could mean that the players streaming function is not connecting to the server or site. It could be that WMP is not set up to allow streaming, or you could have a version of WMP that doesn't work with the sites content. You should get the latest version and see if that helps any.
Don't believe there is a browser plugin for windows media for MPC. There's real alternative and quicktime alternative you can install that runs in/from MPC, but for this, do this- Get/install WiMP10 for the windows media browser stuff. Then, having MPC, go into the options, file types, to make MPC the default player overall. In the end, web pages will pull the wimp10 plugin and play video's and the rest of your desktop will use MPC. If you then go for the RealAlternative/QucktimeAlt- this is MPC based, and this will handle browser .rm/.mov stuff, even streaming, but some have said .rm streams only work to a point- I haven't had any issues with it. This is one setup overall you can use and works well. Good Luck. sc
