Hi all, I'm new to this so please bear with me. I had a problem with WMP 10 in that my pc would randomly re-boot without warning. I then installed WMP 11 hoping this problem would go away. It hasn't. My pc ONLY does this when using Media Player and NEVER with any other programme. It can happen during ripping, burning, playing or any other time. What is going on? My pc seems to be stable at any time other than when using WMP. I get no warning & no error codes, it just re-boots for no apparent reason. Any advice really would be most welcome. I've also tried iTunes 7 AND Media Monkey with exactly the same results. It just randomly re-boots my pc even after a fresh uninstall/reinstall. This ONLY occurs with media players. I'm sooooooooooooooo confused. I've also downloaded some codecs from your site & updated my CD drivers. No change. Thanking you in advance, Slime58.
give us the specs on your pc and make sure all your windows updates have been installed, think back to what you may have installed or uninstalled just before this started happening. try this to, go to my computer, c:drive, right click, properties, tools, click on error checking, click the first box reboot, before you reboot make sure to do disc clean up and defrag. get back to me with all the above see if we can help.
Hi elliott, have found that by using the DVD drive I have no probs at all. Must get a new CD drive at some stage as this is obviously the weak link. Have another query though, as a result of my initial problem. As suggested, I have downoaded the codecs required by downloading ffdshow. What do I do with regards installing them or putting them where they should go? I also ran a thing called "Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility" which indicates that I have no MPEG-2 decoders, although, they should be in ffdshow, or am I being a twat? Please advise as I need educating a bit, many thanks in advance, Slime58
the only way I know of getting a functioning mpeg2 codec is with a dvd player software program such as cyberlink power dvd which is what I use.
sorry I never have used ffdshow or any codec pack to be honest all my codecs have come with the programs I use such as divx player, autogk gordian knot, but most of the time codecs will install their proper location on their own. at the cucusoft.com website they have some popular codec all in one programs but I have heard alot about fdshow so you should be fine.
