media won't play in players

I have a Pacific Digital 8x multi format writer (BTC 1008). I have tried several types of media, all seem to write fine but won't play in either of my DVD players (Hitachi DVP305 and RCA RC5215p). I've have tried Sony DVD-R, TDK DVD +R/RW, Memorex DVD-R, and Fujifilm DVD-R. I'm at a loss. I have a DVD that someone loaned me that is on a Verbatim Digital Movie -R and it works fine. I've used DVDxcopy platinum, and DVDShrink with DVD43/Nero6 Express.
Before I invest more money in Verbatim DVDs, is there something else I should know and/or try?

 

Have you ever been able to burn successfully with this drive? Is the drives firmware up to date? Current version of BTC1008 firmware is 0060.

Burn one at 2x, and try it !

Burning at 2x solved all my playback problems with a Picky Toshiba DVD Player.

 

Thanks I downloaded the firmware update and I have had much better success burning dvds. I also reduced the burn speed and that resulted in better playback on my hitachi. I believe my rca is a lost cause..... too old.
