I am trying to burn my first DVD-R , but I can't get my burner to actually recognize the blank DVD-R disc that is in the drive. I used DVD Decrypter and IMGTool to get to an ISO file that is ready to go to disc, but now DVD Decrypter won't go to the next step b/c it won't see the blank DVD-R in the drive. Any suggestions for a first timer?

ok, I've gone in and run the process outlined on your linked site to make sure that everything with the ASPI layer is installed correctly, but I still get the same error. I know that the computer is able to see the drive fine b/c when I have DVD Decrypter open and change out a DVD-R disc, while the machine is spinning the disc, DVD Decrypter has this message at the bottom of it's console: "Device Not Ready (Logcal device is in the process of becoming ready)". But as soon as the machine stops spinning the drive, the message changes back to: "Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)". Are there some sort of special DVD-Rs that I should have purchased? I was the budget route and got a spindle of 25 CompUSA brand discs, but none of them seem to work. Thanks for your help with this.
What make/model burner is it? A firmware upgrade might help and certainly couldn't hurt. My drive is a NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD that came in my box straight from Dell. I have also installed DVD Region+CSS Free, so from what I can tell from the info at the link you posted I do not need to do a firmware upgrade. Is that correct? If not, any idea what firmware version I need? (I was a little confused by the message for my drive at http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php.)
The NEC DVD+RW ND-2100 AD is a DVD+R and DVD+RW writer. It will not write to DVD-R and DVD-RW so I can see why you are having problems. I would suggest getting the right type of disc's and trying again. Of course you could change the Firmware to a 2500 which would allow you to write to minus disc's. But that would be risky and void your warranty and have a possibility of ruining the drive. Veblin is correct. I also have the same 2100 burner. It only burns to +R and +RW. As mentioned there is a way to change the firmware, but the little difference in cost I am not going to bother. It burns +r and +RW just fine.
The CDRW/DVD SN-324B is a CD burner and DVD-ROM combo drive. If you try to burn any kind of DVD with that drive you will get a "medium not present" error because it is not a DVD burner
OK. I guess I'm even worse at this than I thought. After reading what kind of media I needed to buy time and time again, I still managed to go out and get the wrong stuff. My drive is able to recognize DVD+R discs just fine. Thanks for your help with this really basic issue.
