again,I have a Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL1 F16 and it doesn't recognize cds any more. I have unistalled/re-isntalled the drive, the IDE drive, updated the firmware. What else can I do? Please help.
ned more info - have a look here for what we need - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193937
It will play and burn dvds fine. The only problem is when it comes to cds of any kind (cd-r, cd-rw )and/or brand, even original music cds wont be recognized at all. After you put a cd on the tray and load it up, it is as if you didn't put anything in there. When you go in to my computer and try to open the cd drive it will show as if nothing was there. I tried unistalling and reisntalling drives, ide channels, firmware. I Sent an email to memorex and they told me I had to call them, i thought it was really unprofessional. Creaky, thank you very much for replying.
you're welcome; not sure what to suggest just yet, you tried what i would have suggested so far; just got home & got some work stuff to do while my brain is still active!. I shall have a think...
i have the exact same problem. DVDs burn great but won't read any CDs. i don't have incd loaded. any luck solving this problem?
@ventrel - i guess we have to check the firmware first. download Nero info-tool from here - http://www.snapfiles.com/get/neroinfo.html Run it, note down the following, and paste here. Here's what mine shows - click on the drive tab, note down the firmware version And come to think of it, see what boxes aren't ticked then we'll have more of a clue. See how my screenshot shows that all my drive can't read is DVD-RAM, DVD-R DL and BD-R* (dunno what those 3 are anyway)
Sorry for the typo; further testing showed; i could not boot on a bootable CD, but i could on a bootable DVD.
thats ok, that what i thought you meant. i did some google searching on that basis and while i found a couple things , nothing was conclusive. I was hoping the original poster would have come back and given us some clues. From what i remember this a a Lite-on drive rebadged to appear as a Memorex blah blah F16 drive, which says to me the drive should be a gud 'un. You've got the latest firmware so i'm stumped at the moment. Don't s'pose it reads original CD's, ie maybe audio cd's ?
I dind the info tool thing after I "down-graded" the firmware back to the BWSB and the read speed showed was 6.0X not 48X, everything else was the same as ventrel's.
Also, just to reminf you guys, it won't read any cd at all. Only DVD's. Thank you all for your help. GB!!!
damn!, we were hoping you'd had some progress in the meantime. That's still 2 of you with the same problem. ARGH!!.....
Any luck with this...I too just experienced this problem tonight. I've had the drive since February, and never had a problem. Tonight I was burning a CD-R, and it never showed as finished...Nero 6. I rebooted the machine, and now the drive does not recognize any CD-R. DVD is just fine...same as earlier post in this thread. What's the deal?
Just found this as I was looking around the web.... http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=109986#ts-3Scd Q: [DVD-Writers] My SOHW-1633S/1653S has difficulties with CD media. A: There seems to be a batch of LiteOn drives with defective optical pickup units that have difficulties with CD media. Send your drive in for a replacement. This may be the problem. I bet Memorex won't replace.
I'll try to contact memorex and see if they can replace my drive. I'll keep you all posted. God bless and thanks to all!!!
I contacted Memorex, and they gave me a RMA number, and asked me to ship my drive to them. They said that they will repair, or replace my drive. I'll keep you posted when I get it back.
Like itjit, They gave me an RMA and said they would try to repair it. It seems like that is the only solution to this problem.
I have the same IDENTICAL problem. Was burning a cd with Nero, it got to 100% but never stopped spinning, nor would it eject. Rebooted and now the drive will not recognize any cd of any type, commercially pressed, blanks, even discs burned on the same drive at an earlier date. Guess I'll have to contact Memorex as well, what a pain in the ass.
I have the same exact problem/and Memorex hardware But I also read in this forum a guy with a Sony hardware/computer with the exact same problem.... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/226805
