memory shows 3gig as usable memory

    i have asus p5n-mx and 2 modules of 2gig ddr2 667 installed and it is detecting 4 gig of RAM but also shows only 3 gig as usable memory... do i need to update the bios because i experience errors when i plug in both rams... it is the same in win7 64bit and in bios
