I'm compiling a DVD with 4 films. The maximum space is OK it about 4Gb.

I've used TMPGEnc DVD Author to create a menu with thumbnail views - 4 in all.

Everything appears fine on screen and I encode to the TS_VIDEO folder.

The problem is that the menu created only has 1 of the 4 thumbnails and cannot be used as they select the film.

Any solutions to this one?? Thanks

Getting started - here is what I understand.

VOB files are basically the same as MPG files (except they can have additional audio tracks etc and not just one audio one video track like your typical MPG should).

You can therefore use smartripper to rip a movie video and a single audio track to a smaller single VOB file (make sure to set smartripper to max filesize in settings is all you do here) and then the resulting VOB file can be renamed to an MPG and voila your movie is in a single large MPG file then.

Now since I like to store my movies from my tivo and dvd collection on my computer at the 2 gig MPG size I generally use DVDx to run them through DivX (two pass) and the 2 gig mpgs that result are generally good quality - more than fine for my viewing taste.

Another good way to get small 2 gig Mpgs is to use the Gateway DVD recorder and record from the Tivo using 4 hour mode. This gets 2 movies on a disk and then smartripper results in 2 gig VOBs per movie which can just be renamed very nice (and a lot faster than Vidomi or DVDx)

Here is my dilemma now. I need a simple way to be able to drop two of these 2 gig MPG's onto a DVDRW inside the VIDEO_TS folder and have them menu'd up with IFO and ideally just rename them to VOB and have the dvd player be able to play them again. So I am basically looking for the most efficient way to put typically 2 gig MPG/VOB files onto a 4.4 gig dvd +r or +rw so I can play them on my Xbox or other dvd player in the house.

For those that wrestle with legal issues by the way a tivo on your digital dish is perhaps the most efficient and very legal way to collect HQ video I have found.

    Hiya pluey,

Are you useing one of the existing menu templates?
    or creating your own?

Do you want each film to have a seperate thumbnail on the main menu?
or a seperate thumbnail in a chapter menu?

More info as to exactly what you are trying to achieve.

    Have Fun....

drchips - thanks for the reply..

Right what I want to do is have a menu screen with 4 thumbnails - each one as link to the movie (1 thumbnail per movie).

I've tried using templates and creating my own - all have same problem.

When I create menu in the prog it looks OK, but when I create DVD structure and either burn DVD or view the menu VOB file (using power DVD) it hasn;t created all of the tumbnails - in fact only one of the 4 thumbnails are there???

All the movies has been created - but I can play them cause the all thumbnail links haven't been created.

Any ideas - is this a common problem? Do you know a soultion?

Your help would be much appreciated as I've been trying to fix this for a week now.

    Thanks

    Righty-ho,

Run DVD Author, carry on as you would and add the FIRST film.

You now have 1 untitled TRACK with 1 CLIP in it.
Look at the left-hand pane, you will see the words "Add new track..." in BLUE, click on them and add the NEXT film.

You now have TWO films in the project.

Do NOT add any more films (this is just a demo to show the principles, they work the same for 4 films)

When you get to the Menu Creation stage, choose Cloud 1 (purely for demo purposes).
Firstplay Action == Display Main Menu
    Display Menu Settings -> General
    set Only Main Menu
    Display Main Menu
    Display Main menu

    Click OK

The screen should now show TWO thumbnails

Create the output to a DVD FOLDER on the Hard-Drive.

    Test the output.

The main change is the use of "Add new track..."

Have a play around and report back..

    Have Fun...
