i have converted 10 avi's clips to mpeg-2(m2v format). now i need to merge all 10 m2v's into a single m2v. is it fine if it's converted to mpg(one lenghty clip)?

The video conversion (M2V) is fine, but you're mussing the audio (M2A).
I would suggest you to, first:

    1) open each AVI with VirtualDub
    2) set audio__full processing mode and fo File__Save WAV
    3) Run FFMPEG GUI and transform each WAV file into a movie_audio.AC3 (192 kbps, 2 channels, 48 kHz which is the default)

Now you should have N M2V files and N AC3 files.
Now you must simply author a DVD using the files. DVD Lab allows you to do it. I don't know many others, but any authoring application should...
