Hi, firstly I must state that I'm a total noob at this. A friend has given me their camcorder - to extract the content to my PC and then to put it on a DVD. Can anyone tell me how I will go about this, even briefly?
you will need some basic elements to progress. Firstly, you will need to have a Firewire port on both the pc and the camera. Also you will need the firewire cable to connect the two. Second you will need some software to download the avi files from the miniDV to your pc and to do the editing as required. This software shuld also be able to save the final edit of this footage into a format that can be burned onto a dvd. Lastly, you will need a dvd burner and software to do the burn. This is a very basic outline of what you want to do. Take heart you have come to the right place to ask your question and now what you need to do is to some serious reading of the various guides on this site as well as to do some searches and read what others have done. For the record I use Vegas as my editing software. good luck
A good description of ervrything you need to know can be found on the "basics" section of http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/
Hi, You first have to finalize the mini dvd while it is in the camcorder. The result will be a DVD that you can play on your PC or DVD player. Sony included with the camcorder some simple video editing program. With my camcorder (DVD201E with USB interface) came ImageMixer V1.5. After install of the software, the camcorder can be connected to the USB port of a PC, and you can extract the video scenes from the mini dvd using this program. The result is a bunch of chapxxx.mpg files, you can play and edit. If you don't have ImageMixer, put the finalized mini dvd in the dvd player of your PC, and use some other dvd rip program to convert the scenes to .mpg or .avi. Succes !
@goofert: Your statements are correct and OK, but to avoid confusion: this thread is about minDV to DVD, not miniDVD to DVD.
