ok, now i've read through most of these posts but I think it got me even more confused. Just recently I bought a Sony VAIO with a DVD-RW thinking that it could easily make an exact copy of another DVD. As it turns out, it doesn't do it...(right?). I'm looking through some posts and it turns out I need a decoder because of the CSS. Then I see that I need another decoder if the (original) DVD's are bigger than 4.7GB (which most of them are). So my question is this. Even though I bought a computer w/DVD-RW, I still need to get a 1)decoder to bypass the CSS 2)another decoder to extract the "special features" to shrink the size of the DVD??? Or is there another way, an easier way to do this. My main purpose is to backup DVD's which I already own, and possibly PS2 and PS games. Thanks.

    In answer to your question:

Yes, you have to rip the contents of the DVD because of CSS Encryption
Yes, you do need to compress a DVD-9 (over 4.7GB) DVD to fit it on DVD-R

If you are new to burning DVD's you should read the DVD Shrink (free tool) guide on the site BaaBaa pointed out. Also have a look at the Record Now Max program for burning, its not just a matter of putting a disc in a pressing go. You can get a free 30 day full trial from the link on that site too.

    Do everything else BaaBaa suggested
