Hello, I am having trouble converting mkvs to avis using winavi...funny thing is is that I have actually done this conversion before...but I didn't have this much trouble...it is giving me a "Cannot decode this file! may be the file is broken or system not install the decoder." Now I have the most recient versions of Divx, xivd, and Matroska codecs...so I am confused as to why is this happening...If anybody knows of any other software that would work let me know..I am trying to batch convert an entire series~ Thanks T
Dunno about the decoding eroor but I suggest you try VirtualDUBMod to split it instead, it's easier too- plus you will be able to choose which audio track you want and if you want the subs. edit-- I'm guessing this is for anime, am I right?
No such thing as a Matroska codec (there is a pack though). Mkv is a container and can contain many different audio/video/subtitle streams. So just because you can convert one, means nothing. VirtualDub can't handle mkv files at all. VirtualDubMod can, but it is out of date and will have trouble with a lot of mkv files (native AVC, VFR video, VOBSubs, etc.). That said, if you can play the file and winavi's dshow input is working properly, then it should be able to convert it.
It may be due to your source file in some degrees. So you should make sure that your source file can be perfectly played in WMP. Besides, please also check the codec you have.
@celtic_d: Can WinAVI actually split the mkv files though? So that you have a choice of which subs and audio tracks you want on the finished product?
Don't think winavi itself can split anything, just relies on installed dshow filters. Think it might bundle Gabest's real media splitter though? So possibly others.
As i know winavi can split output file.And in the advanced page,it allows you select which audio/subtitles stream you want.You can have a try.
You're right, but I've tried numerous mkv and ogm files and WinAVI doesn't show subtitles for either- u can only pick the audio. So I suggest using MKV Extract Gui to split the mkv file and then use AVI Mux Gui to combine the two chosen files into .AVI format, this way you can have the audio of your choice and subs in 1 avi file, hope that helps.
